Best Alabama Online Betting Sites & Sportsbooks

Alabama is a state that has deep roots with college sports. You likely already know that the men’s football program at Alabama University is one of the top programs of the last 20 years, and many people in the state either are into the category of fans of Alabama or fans of Auburn.

This fierce loyalty and love of college sports are tempered by a relatively conservative point of view on other fronts, and this spills into gambling in the state.

Sports Betting in Alabama

With such an appetite for sports, especially football, and basketball, you would think that Alabama would be one of the more progressive states when it comes to betting on sports.

Of course, it was only in 2018 that the Federal government repealed the law that made sports betting legal outside of Nevada, and many states have passed locally regulated sports betting. Alabama, unfortunately, is not one of those states.

So, what does that mean? Well, it means that for the time being, residents of Alabama won’t be able to walk into a local casino and place a sports bet anytime soon.

Sports Betting Legislation

Unfortunately, Alabama is one of the few states that has yet to introduce a sports betting bill to Congress. Since the repeal of PAPSA in 2018, the state of Alabama has not made any sort of push towards regulated and local sports gambling.

Conservative politics have ran the state for some time now, and sports gambling is clearly not high on their list of priorities.

However, there are a few other options for those living in Alabama.

Online Sports Betting

While there will likely be an online or mobile component of any sports betting legislation introduced in Alabama, for now, players can access any of the offshore based sportsbooks that accept players and deposits from the state. This gives bettors a place to play even if it is not regulated locally by the state.

Offshore Betting Sites for Alabama
Alabamans engaging in online gambling via a site that is both licensed and managed in a foreign country won’t bring about any issues. A large number of these credible platforms have their base in Curacao. Therefore, it’s a good idea to check for the gaming authority seal on their websites.

Another option would be to visit Las Vegas or neighboring states to place sports bets until Alabama changes its legislation. Once the legislation changes, you will be able to turn back to this page to find the best online sportsbooks in Alabama.

Although there are no locally run sportsbooks in Alabama. Residents can still access online betting sites to help them place sports wagers.

Alabama Online Betting Sites

While none of these books listed are located within the United States, they are available for residents. Users take a “virtual trip” to the host country to place a sports wager, and then return to collect their winnings, if needed.

While this isn’t the most appealing method of sports gambling, unfortunately residents of Alabama do not have much of a choice. The sites listed above have operated for over a decade, and have solid reputations.

The Alabama state government has made little push to localized sports gambling since they were able to starting in 2018. There is also not much reason for residents to believe this will change anytime soon.

Currently politicians in the state do not have sports gambling anywhere on their radar.

Daily Fantasy Sports

Although sports gambling is not regulated in the state, Daily Fantasy Sports and other such contests are allowed! Users are welcome to play DFS games for real cash winnings.

Casino Gambling in Alabama

Alabama does not have any state-run casinos currently, however there are some throughout the state.

Residents can visit one of three Wind Creek tribal casinos to table games and other gaming activities. These casinos do offer electronic bingo machines as well as other online games.

However, poker is classified as a skill game and therefore is not available in Alabama casinos.

Horse Betting in Alabama

Horse betting is legal in Alabama and there are several racetracks that hold contests.
The minimum age for betting at the state’s racetracks is 18 in some counties, and 19 in other counties. However, to play casino-style games, residents must be 21 years of age.

Alabama Betting FAQs

Is sports betting legal in Alabama?
At the time of writing this page, sports betting is not regulated inside the state of Alabama. Now, that can be a bit misleading – it isn’t illegal for players to make sports bets, there just aren’t any local establishments taking action currently. With no legal sports betting option in Alabama, residents will have to travel to other states to place sports bets, or do so on off-shore sites.
When will sports betting be regulated in Alabama?
The repeal of PASPA by the Supreme Court in May 2018 opened the floodgates for regulating sports betting at the state level. While Alabama was not part of the first wave of states to adopt legislation, we believe that it will be locally regulated here shortly.
What is the best sportsbook for players from Alabama?
This is a tough question to answer because sportsbooks offer different products to different people. We think the best sites for Alabamans are the ones that focuses on sports that mean the most to residents of that state, like college basketball and football.
