Types of NCAA Football Odds

Do you like to bet on college football games? If so, many types of NCAA football odds are available at sportsbooks like BetOnline. But the three main types of college football game odds are moneyline odds, point spread odds, and total odds, which are also known as over/under odds.

Those three types of odds are the types of NCAA football odds you will find on this page and on our other odds pages.

Moneyline & Point Spread Odds

If you are betting on moneyline and spread betting odds, you are betting on sides.

When it comes to betting on a game, sides directly involve the outcome of the game.

Betting on moneylines means that you are betting on a team to win. If the team you pick wins, your bet wins, whether they win by one point, ten points, or 40 points.

Betting on point spreads means that you are betting on a team to achieve a more specific outcome. A bet on the spread favorite is on that team to win by at least a certain number of points. If you are betting on the spread underdog, your bet is on that team to either win outright or at least not lose by a certain number of points.

If Ohio State is favored by 6.5 points over Penn State, that means the Buckeyes must win by seven or more points to cover the -6.5 spread. On the other side, it means that Penn State must either win outright or lose by no more than six points to cover the +6.5.

Total (a.k.a. Over/Under) Odds

When you are betting on college football game odds, total betting, which is also known as over/under betting, involves betting on how many combined points will be scored.

That combination can be any sort of combination, as who wins and who loses has no bearing on the outcome of total bets. A bet on the over is on the two teams to combine for more points than the listed total. If you bet on the under, your bet is on the two teams to combine for fewer points than the listed total.

If the total for Ohio State’s matchup with Penn State is 48.5, that means that the two teams must score 49 or more points combined for over bets to win and 48 or fewer points for under bets to win.

Other Types of College Football Odds

There are other types of NCAA football odds found throughout our content and at sports betting sites.

That includes prop betting odds, odds for futures bets such as Heisman odds and national championship odds, and odds for parlays and teasers, which are types of combination bets (bets that have multiple selections).

Comparing College Football Odds

On this page, you can compare college football game odds from multiple sportsbooks. By comparing odds, which is also known as line shopping, you can find the best possible value for a betting line.

This page can be especially helpful for line shoppers. Instead of having to spend valuable time combing through individual sportsbooks, we have the point spread, moneyline, or total odds you’re looking for in one place.

You will often find similarities across different sports betting sites when comparing odds. However, one book or a few books may stick out from the crowd and offer significantly better odds. Those edges may appear to be small, but finding those little edges can prove to be significant, especially in the long term.

What Factors Can Affect NCAA Football Odds?

There are many factors that can influence college football odds.

Two of the main factors are public betting trends and injury/suspension news.

With public betting trends, if most bets are on one side, sportsbooks will shift odds to draw attention to the other side.

If most bets are on one side of a betting line, that indicates which side the betting public is heavily on. Professional bettors, also known as sharps, often use that information to bet on the other side.

With injuries and suspensions, notable injury or suspension absences can deplete a team, and returns from injury and suspension can be a big lift. Both scenarios can cause major shifts in NCAA football odds, and bettors should always be aware of key injury and suspension news and any corresponding line movement when placing bets.
