History of the Orlando Magic

The Orlando Magic entered the NBA as an expansion franchise in 1989. Despite being a young team, they quickly rose to prominence thanks to smart drafting and bold leadership.

In 1992, the Magic drafted Shaquille O’Neal, a dominant center who immediately transformed the team into a playoff contender. With Penny Hardaway joining in 1993, the duo formed one of the most dynamic partnerships in the league. In 1995, the Magic reached their first NBA Finals, though they lost to the Houston Rockets.

After O’Neal’s departure in 1996, the franchise underwent a rebuilding phase. However, by 2004, another superstar emerged, Dwight Howard, the first overall pick in the NBA Draft.

Under Howard’s leadership, the Magic became one of the league’s top defensive teams and reached the NBA Finals again in 2009, falling to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Throughout the 2010s, the Magic experienced ups and downs but continued to develop promising young players. Today, led by rising stars like Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner, the Magic are focused on building a new era of success.
