Big 5-game slate today and we’re heading to the late game. The Seattle Storm will take on the Golden State Valkyries at the Chase Center. This will be the second time these two teams face each other, and the Valkyries won the first game.
Golden State is the newcomer this year and off to a great start. They’re 8-7 so far and 4th in the Western Conference. They come into this game off a win over the Sky on Friday night by 5-points. The Valkyries are 6-4 in their last 10 games and 6-3 at home this season.
This team doesn’t look the greatest on paper. They rank in the bottom of the league in points per game, pace and offensive rating. Despite all that, they find ways to win games and that’s all that matters. On the other end of the ball, Golden State has a great defense and ranks 3rd in defensive rating.
Forward Kayla Thornton is the clear leader on this team. She’s averaging 16 points and 7 rebounds per game this season. Teammates Tiffany Hayes and Veronica Burton have both been supporting with double digit point averages as well. This team could be one superstar away from being a serious contender.
Storm will look to get their lick back after losing first matchup

Valkyries forward Kayla Thornton and Storm center Ezi Magbegor both go up for the rebound and collide.
The Storm are 10-6 this season and 3rd in the Western Conference. They come into this game off a win over the Sun on Friday night. Seattle is 7-3 in their last 10 games and 4-3 on the road this year.
Seattle is off to a hot start and a definite contender this year. Guard Skylar Diggins has been leading this team averaging 19 points and 6 assists per game. Forward Gabby Williams has been fantastic so far averaging 14 points, 5 assists and 5 rebounds per game. Nneka Ogwumike is quietly killing it as well with 17.6 and 8 rebounds per game.
Their offense ranks top of the league. The Storm are second in the league for points per game and pace as well as first in field goal percentage. They dish the ball well but struggle down low, ranking in the bottom of the league for rebounding.
I think they’re going to look to even things up against Golden State after losing that first matchup. Let’s check out the odds and get into the Storm vs Valkyries picks.

This should be a really good game. Both teams have been playing well, and I think we get a battle here. On that note, I also think we see a back-and-forth close matchup and that’s why I’m taking Golden State with the 5.5 points.
The Valkyries already showed they can hang with this team and even got the win. Now, on home court, where they already play well, should be a good set up for them. The +198 on the moneyline almost calls for a sprinkle.
Give me Sky Diggins to record 19 or more points for -106. She has 21 points last matchup and has cleared this line in her last four games straight. I don’t mind her 6 or more assists for -132 as well that she has hit in four of her last five games and six out of her last eight games. She didn’t clear the mark in their last matchup, but she will need to feed the ball to Nneka and Gabby to keep them in this game.
The other play I have to roll with is Kayla Thornton for 16 or more points for -108. She is coming off a big 29-point game and has cleared the line in seven out of her last eight games. Thornton put up 22 points in the last matchup from two weeks ago as well.
