We head to the desert tonight for the late game on the slate. The Seattle Storm will take on the Phoenix Mercury at the PHX Arena. This is the 2nd time this season these 2 teams meet and the Storm won the last game by 7 points.
Seattle is 4-4 to start the season. They come into this game off a win over the Wings on Tuesday night. The Storm are 1-2 on the road so far, so something they need to work on. Sky Diggins will take on her former team in her former arena, so we’ll have an eye on that.
The Storm move the ball well, ranking 6th in pace and 3rd in assists. They don’t score as much as they should, ranking 9th in the league, averaging 79.3 points per game. Rebounding is another area they don’t do well in, ranking 11th in the league.
They rank 9th in the league for offensive rating with the 4 best shooting percentage in the league, but 5th in the league for defensive rating. Seattle could use a little bump on defense, only ranking 9th in steals and ranking 8th in turnovers. Protecting the ball is going to be key against the Mercury who leads the league in steals per game.
Phoenix going for their 7th win in front of the home crowd

Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas reacts after getting the and 1 call.
The Mercury are playing well considering their injury problems. They are missing Kahleah Copper since the start of the season and now Alyssa Thomas has missed multiple games. All the pressure has fallen on Satou Sabally and she has been delivering.
Sabally, in her 1st season with the Mercury, is averaging 20 points per game and 8 rebounds per game. She has led them to a 6-3 start and 3rd in the Western Conference. Considering all the injuries, this team looks good in the 1st quarter of the season.
Phoenix comes into this game off a win over Golden State Thursday night. They are 5-1 at home this season which should work in their favor tonight. Alyssa Thomas played in their last game and played a big role, so the Mercury will look to fill that void tonight.
Overall, the team doesn’t shine drastically on offense or defense. They just keep finding ways to win and that’s all you can do. I can only imagine how dangerous they will be once fully healthy. Let’s check out the odds and get into the picks.

I have to go ahead and take Seattle here to cover the spread. I backed the Mercury last game vs the Valkyries and they covered for us, but the team is hurting. Missing 2 of your 3 best players shows after a while, as well as puts a lot of pressure on your now best player.
Seattle was able to take the last matchup by 7-points at home. Skylar Diggins plays well vs her former team, hitting her points line in both games this season. We’ll be taking her for 17 or more points priced at -115. She has over 20 points in each of the other games.
Another play I like for this game is Satou Sabally to get 8 or more rebounds for -145. We’re going to pay the juice man here, but she has cleared this line in 6 of her last 7 games, only missing last game. Satou also grabbed 9 boards in their last matchup, and she will be expected to perform the same way.
The last play I like is Gabby Williams to record 22 or more PRA for -137. She has hit this mark comfortably in her last 2 games and has hit in 4 out of her last 5 games as well as her last 5 out of 7 games. Williams has finally settled in, and I expect her to be involved plenty tonight.
