With the last game to cap off the first day of the playoffs we head to the desert. The Seattle Storm will take on the red-hot Las Vegas Aces at the Michelob ULTRA Arena. The two teams split the season series at two games apiece.
Las Vegas finished the season 30-14 and locked up the second seed. They went on a historic 16 game winning streak to end the season after a rough start to the season. The Aces are 10-0 in their last 10 games and were 17-5 at home this year.
A’ja Wilson went ahead and just took over the league. She wins the scoring title and also led the league in eight total categories by herself. Wilson has already been named the AP Player of the Year as well as the AP Defensive Player of the Year. We will wait until next season to see if she will get her fourth league MVP, which would be the most by any player in WNBA history.
This team has a lot of playoff experience as well as some really talented players. Ladies like Jackie Young and Chelsea Gray bring the winning mentality that Wilson has. They added Nalyssa Smith and Jewell Loyd who are both hungry for playoff success.

Seattle will have a tough round one in front of them with the Aces

Storm guard Skylar Diggins tries to go up for a layup while defended by Aces center A’ja Wilson.
The Storm finished the season 23-21 and got the seventh seed in the playoffs. They come into this game of their playoff clinching win over the Valkyries on Tuesday. Seattle finished 6-4 in their last ten games and were 13-9 on the road this year.
Showing they can beat the Aces this season is huge and also playing well on the road. These are two ingredients that will work well for Seattle coming into this series. Although they did beat them early in the year, this is a different team than they played then.
One of the teams’ weakest points that they’ll need to improve is rebounding. They ranked dead last in rebounding this season and have players like Ezi Magbegor, Dominque Malonga and Nneka Ogwumike who should all be able to clean the glass, but struggle.
Containing Wilson will be the toughest task with the way she’s playing. If they put too much attention to her though, it will leave holes elsewhere for the Aces to capitalize. Let’s check out the odds and get into the Storm vs. Aces picks.

Well, it’s kind of hard to pick against a team this hot and we’re not going too. think the Aces are really on a mission this year after not making the finals last year. They also have the biggest thing you want when rolling into the playoffs and that’s momentum.
I like this spread too. I think they win this game by more than ten points, but the six is all we need. Since the season series split, I think the books are giving the Storm some respect. Not that they don’t deserve it, it’s just that they really should be out matched.
Expect A’ja to have a big game. I like her rebounds for 12 or more at +105. She is coming off a 19 rebound performance while the Storm are horrible at rebounding. Wilson also hit the 12 number in the last two games vs. Seattle.
The other play I like is Jackie Young to hit 2 or more three pointers for the very juiced -160. She’s been on a tear, hitting in her last four games and five out of six games. Young has also hit in her last two games vs. Seattle as well.
