WNBA Sky vs Sparks Picks and Odds, August 17, 2024

Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky head to Los Angeles to take on the Cameron Brink-less Sparks. Both teams are coming off blowout loses in their 1st games back from break, so someone needs to come to win tonight.

The Sky lost to the Mercury by 20-points Thursday night. Being the 1st game back, you like to think they had to get the rust off, but not really. Phoenix just played extremely well, and Kahleah Copper picked up where she left off from the Olympics.

Angel Reese did her job for the most part, putting up 11 points and 15 rebounds. She looked like she did before the break. Well, she shot 4/14 from the field so we know she’s back.

Chicago did just part ways with guard Marina Mabrey, who was traded to Connecticut. They will need to play a few games to fill that void and could’ve been a contributing factor to last night’s loss.

So far this season, the Sky are 10-15 and 4th in the Eastern Conference. They are 6-6 on the road and 4-6 in their last 10 games. These 2 teams met way back in May and the Sky won by 10 points.

LA has had a rough year which started with losing their rookie star Cameron Brink. They’re 6-19 so far this season and sitting in 5th in the Western Conference. The Sparks are 4-9 at home this year and 2-8 in their last 10 games.

This team is coming off a bad loss to the New York by 35 points. They were absolutely humiliated by Breanna Stewart and the rest of the Liberty. It should be a good get right spot for them at home, but I think differently. We’ll get into that though.

Hamby can’t do everything herself, so Stevens, Jackson and Nurse all need to step up if they want to make a playoff run. At this rate, it’s looking like it’ll take a miracle. Let’s check out the odds and get into the picks.

The Sky really took a beating the other night and I personally was surprised. This is a perfect get right spot for them against a weak Sparks team. Chennedy Carter ended up not playing last game which contributed to their loss as she is the leading scorer. We will see if she plays this game.

In the 1st matchup this season, the Sparks had Cameron Brink who opened up plays for Dearica Hamby. It’s going to be interesting to see how the Sparks adjust this time without Brink.

I like for Angel Reese to get her rebounds again. Her line last game was 13.5 at -105 value and it hit. I thought she was going to be held under, but with her poor shooting, she is getting so many offensive boards. Hard to not keep riding this wave.
