Tonight, we have a battle of the middle of the Eastern Conference. The Washington Mystics head to Wintrust Arena to face the Chicago Sky. Both teams are off to rough starts this season but are hanging in there. They sit in the fourth and fifth spots in the East.
Washington is the one who is fourth in the Conference and have a 4-7 record. They come into this game off an embarrassing loss to the Dream Sunday by 33 points. These types of games cannot happen if you want to go far this season and into the playoffs.
Rookies Kiki Iraifen and Sonia Citron have been leading this team. Iriafen will probably finish second in Rookie of the Year voting behind Paige Bueckers at the end of the season. She is averaging 13.8 points and 9.3 rebounds per game while Citron is averaging 13.4 points per game.
Britney Sykes is the veteran on this team and had a good start to the season. She is coming off a terrible 2-for-10 shooting performance, so this is a good spot for her to bounce back against a Sky team with poor defense.

Sky will look to carry momentum from Sunday’s win to tonight

Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese takes the ball down court after a defensive rebound.
The Sky are coming off a nice 12-point win over the Sun on Sunday. Angel Reese put up a triple-double, which was pretty cool to see. She joined Caitlin Clark as the only players to record a triple-double this season.
Chicago is 3-7 so far this year and are fifth in the conference. The team didn’t change much from last year to this year other than adding Ariel Atkins and Courtney Vandersloot. Sloot unfortunately tore her ACL and is done for the year.
Angel Reese has been doing her thing so far. She’s been putting up her double-doubles, averaging 10.4 points and 11.9 rebounds per game. Her shooting still needs a lot of work, shooting 36% from the field. As people are now saying, she grabs those “mebounds.”
Kamilla Cardoso is quietly doing her thing with 10.9 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. People forget she was the third pick in the 2024 draft and can really ball when given the chance. Let’s check out the odds and get into the Mystics vs. Sky picks.

I think we see a sloppy game here. Neither team scores much nor shoots well from the field. The Mystics rank 11th in points per game and the Sky rank 12th. Washington is betting shooting, ranking seventh in the league, but Chicago ranks 11th in the league.
Both teams also rank in the bottom of the league for three-point shooting and free throws. All this leads to one thing – give me the game total to go under 156 points. Again, I think we see sloppy basketball with a lot of missed shots and turnovers. Washington ranks 11th and Chicago ranks last for turnovers per game.
Give me Reese to get her 12 rebounds for +114. I think there will be a lot of chances for her to grab that ball and clean the glass. She should also come into this game extremely confident coming off the triple-double. This is also a possibly winnable game for the Sky if they can shoot well.
On the other side of the court, give me Kiki Iriafen to record 21 or more points and rebounds (PR) combined. I like Kiki in this spot to go along with some of the same reasoning as Reese. Difference here is Iriafen shoots much better than Reese, so we’ll take the PR.
