We got a heck of a game one out of these two teams. The Phoenix Mercury hosted the New York Liberty, and the game went to overtime. New York pulled out the win in the end and we head to the Barclays Center for game 2.
Phoenix went 27-17 this year and took the fourth seed in the playoffs. They come into game two off that overtime loss as mentioned where they couldn’t finish the game. The Mercury are better at home on the road, with a 12-10 road record this year.
Alyssa Thomas missed a costly layup that would’ve ended the game in regulation. She did have a great game considering that miss with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. He typical almost triple double, but she cannot do it all.
The rest of the Mercury team played decent. Satou Sabally had 9 points on two of seventeen shooting though. Sabally did grab 8 boards. Kahleah Copper did her job with 15 points and DeWanna Bonner put up 12 points off the bench.

New York looks to move to round two despite Stewart injury

Liberty forward Breanna Stewart tries to drive to the hoop while defended by Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas.
The Liberty finished the year 27-17 and back to the playoffs to defend their crown. They started the season off hot but cooled off and even dropped a few playoff spots towards the end of the season. New York was 17-5 at home this season, so their road win could pose to be huge.
Forward Breanna Stewart is a game time decision tonight with a right knee injury. She missed some time last game, but an MRI came back clean. The former league MVP and 3x champion is a huge part of this team, so we’ll be watching this closely.
Natasha Cloud went off last game and really helped carry this team. Her 23 points were huge in that game one win. Jonquel Jones was quiet with only 7 points, so the Liberty will really need her if Stewie isn’t available.
This is going to be a tough game. Phoenix is a really good team and can take over a game quickly. New York has all the talent on both ends of the court which make them such a threat. Let’s check out the odds and get into the Mercury vs. Liberty picks.

This should be a really good game with or without Breanna Stewart. Phoenix is not going to go down without a fight and they can fight. With the two powerhouses we’re dealing with, I’m going with the Mercury spread.
I think we see a close game and the two points could make all the difference. If Alyssa Thomas hits that layup as time expired in the 4th quarter of game one, it would’ve ended in a two-point game. In regard to a side, I lean with the Liberty at home, buying the bad news on Stewie.
The first play I like is Jonquel Jones to get 9 or more rebounds for -138. She is coming off a 12 rebound game and that was with Stewart playing. Jones also hit her last two out of four vs. the Mercury this year.
Now give me Sabrina Ionescu to get 19 or more points for -108 and I’ll be taking her 20+ (+122) and her 25+ (+400) IF Stewart is out. Her points is the play regardless, but the ladder will happen if Stewie sits. Ionescu just had 16 points and will need to step up even if Stewart plus she plays well at home.
