Atlanta Dream vs Chicago Sky Prediction & Picks

Rhyne Howard Atlanta Dream WNBA

The Atlanta Dream have had a perfect start to July, but if it is to continue, they will have to take care of business on the road for the second time in three nights against the Chicago Sky tonight (8:00 pm ET).

The Dream (9-8, 6-3 away) have won four games in a row, including their first three games in July. As a result, they entered Sunday a game behind the Washington Mystics (10-7) for third in the Eastern Conference.

That fourth consecutive win was achieved on Friday night at Wintrust Arena, as they took down the Sky (8-10, 4-5 home) 82-68. Atlanta led by only a point entering the fourth quarter, but they outscored Chicago 23-10 to pick up their third straight double-digit win.

Who will take the win in the rematch? Read on for our Dream vs Sky prediction and picks, but first, let’s take a look at the odds for tonight’s matchup in the Windy City.

Will We See a Higher-Scoring Rematch in Chicago?

Allisha Gray Atlanta Dream WNBA
Atlanta’s Allisha Gray scored a team-leading 21 points in Friday’s 82-68 win over the Sky.

Friday’s result at Wintrust Arena was a bit of a surprising one, not because Atlanta won but because it was such a low-scoring game.

The Sky are second-to-last in the WNBA in scoring, but in winning three straight games, they had scored 80, 86, and 89 points. But they took a big step back against Atlanta, shooting only 36.8% from the field overall and only 29.2% from three after shooting 43.8% from three and 50.8% from the field in their win streak.

It was equally a big positive step for the Dream, who are last in the WNBA in scoring defense (87.6 PPG allowed) and had allowed fewer than 80 points in only four of their 16 games this season.

Tonight’s rematch should see more scoring, which is good news for those who like to bet the over.

Well, maybe.

Only seven of Chicago’s 18 games have gone over 166.5 points, including just three of their nine home games. On the other side, ten of Atlanta’s 17 games this season have gone over 166.5 points, but that number includes only four of their nine road games.

Those numbers seem to indicate that the under is the way to go in this matchup, even though the Dream are third in the WNBA in scoring (86.6 PPG) in addition to their poor scoring defense ranking.

Atlanta Dream vs Chicago Sky Prediction and Picks

Prediction for Dream vs Sky: Dream to win

Picks for Dream vs Sky: Dream +1.5 (-110) & Dream/Sky under 166.5 points (+100)

The Dream have played well on the road this season, with their three road losses coming against the Dallas Wings (twice)–who are 7-2 at home and beat the league-leading Las Vegas Aces at home last night–and the Mystics, who are 6-2 at home.

I really like Atlanta to continue that road success tonight and wrap up their visit to the Windy City with two wins. I’m rolling with the spread here but going with the ML outright is the best move value wise.
