WNBA All-Star Game Prediction and Picks
Because last year was an Olympic year, the WNBA All-Star Game pitted Team WNBA vs. Team USA. There were still points aplenty, as Team WNBA won 117-109 behind a 34-point performance by MVP Arike Ogunbowale, but this year’s game should feature much more scoring.
That is even with Caitlin Clark unavailable due to a groin injury and Satou Sabally, who was also slated to start on Team Clark, missing out because of an ankle injury.
All five selected starters for Team Collier will be available, including captain and runaway WNBA MVP favorite Napheesa Collier, who could become just the third player to be named WNBA All-Star MVP and WNBA MVP in the same season, joining Hall of Famers Lisa Leslie (2001) and Sheryl Swoopes (2005).
The WNBA All-Star Game contains a few notable quirks that should ramp up the scoring. The shot clock is reduced from 24 to 20 seconds, and there are four 4-point shot spots (two at each end of the court, at a distance of 28 feet from the basket).
Also, players will not shoot free throws until the final two minutes of the game. Before that point, if there are any fouls, points will automatically be awarded. There likely won’t be many fouls, but free points will only help the scoring as well.
With two of the league’s top offensive threats missing, taking the over carries some risk, but this is ultimately an exhibition game in which the focus is going to be on scoring, scoring, and more scoring. Take the over (and Sabrina Ionescu to score 25+ points at Bovada) and ignore the spread.
