We have a Western Conference battle on our hands, and we’re headed to Golden State. The Dallas Wings will take on the Golden State Valkyries tonight at the Chase Center. Last time these two teams met, the Wings won by nine points back in June.
Golden State has had a heck of a start with a 10-12 record. They’re 5th in the Western Conference and come into this game on a three-game losing streak. The Valkyries are 4-6 in their last 10 games and 7-4 at home this season.
This team was a group just randomly put together and they’ve gelled nicely. They don’t rank very high in the stats on offense but are a very good defensive team. Golden State has the third best defensive rating in the league.
Kayla Thornton has been having a great year and was voted an All-Star. She’s averaging 14 points and 7 rebounds per game. She will unfortunately be out with a leg injury. Tiffany Hayes and Veronica Burton then follow Thornton has the offensive leaders on this team.

Dallas will look to build off last game and win 2 in a row

Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers and Dallas Wings guard Arike Ogunbowale celebrates with teammates after an and-1 call.
The Wings are 7-17 this season and 7th in the West. They come into this game off a big win over the Storm by 24 points. Dallas is 4-6 in their last ten games and 3-10 on the road this year.
Rookie Paige Bueckers has been having a great year and becoming the leader of this team. She is averaging 18 points, 5.5 assists and 4 rebounds per game. Not too shabby for a rookie right out of college.
Dallas has had to fight the injury bug between Arike Ogunbowale and DiJonai Carrington. Both missed multiple games but looks like they are back and will be in the lineup. They are huge pieces to this offense that is still trying to find itself.
Their defense is terrible which is a huge problem. They rebound the ball well, but that’s about it. The Wings rank 10th in the league for defensive rating. Let’s check out the odds and get into the Wings vs Valkyries picks.

Golden State has played well at home this season. They need to kick this losing streak, and this is a perfect bounce back spot. Back where they’re comfortable and playing a team that they are better than, on paper at least.
The Valkyries need Hayes and Burton to cook without Thornton. Hit their shots early on to take a lead. Both teams rank in the bottom of the league for field goal percentage, so they need to step it up. That leads us to the pick of taking the under in this game for that reason and Thornton being out. Dallas being horrible on defense helps as well.
Defense is a strong point for Golden State. This is what can be the difference maker. I think it will be, and they should clear this six-point spread. Now don’t get me wrong, this defense will be tested, so it won’t be a freebie.
I do like for Paige to have a big game. She has been rather quiet the last two games and I think we see a 20+ point performance. Bueckers had 20 points vs. the Valkyries in their early matchup this year. Dallas will need these 20 from Paige to compete as well, so she’ll be shooting.
