We’re in the dirty South tonight for a battle between the Chicago Sky and the Atlanta Dream. Chicago is having a rougher start to the season than Atlanta, but this should be a good one to say the least. This will be the first time these two teams meet this season.
Atlanta is 6-3 to start the year and second in the Eastern Conference. They come into this game off a win over the Fever where they laid a beatdown, winning by 19 points. The Dream have played well at home, with a 3-1 record so far.
Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray are leading this team. Gray leads the team in scoring, averaging 20.4 points per game and Howard is right behind her, averaging 16 points per game. Both guards are averaging 5.3 rebounds per game.
Down low, this team has some new coverage that is working out. Newly added Brittney Griner and Brionna Jones have been producing numbers for this team. Jones is averaging 14 points and 9 rebounds per game, while Griner is averaging 12.6 points and 6 rebounds per game.

Chicago will try to snap 2-game losing streak in Atlanta

Sky forward Angel Reese walks on the court after the end of a timeout.
The Sky are 2-6 this season and fifth in the East. They are having a rough start to the season, and it starts with offense. They have been nowhere to be found when it comes to scoring, where they rank in the bottom of the league.
This team ranks first in the league for pace, but it really loses its value when you can’t capitalize with scoring. They rank 11th in field goal percentage, 10th in three-point shooting percentage, and 12th in free-throw percentage as well. These are all keys to success.
I know everyone is focused on Angel Reese’s stats, but she needs to help this team win. Her 10 points per game on 35.8% shooting isn’t enough for this team with low talent as it is. She has been doing her job cleaning the glass, averaging 12.1 rebounds per game.

This spread is huge, which makes me a little uneasy, but then I look back at the Sky’s losses and I feel better. Atlanta has been playing well, and I think this is a great game for them to make it three in a row. Let’s get into some numbers here.
In five out of the six losses by the Sky, they have lost by more than 12 points. Honestly, they were completely blown out of four of the five games and I’m being nice because the other was by 13 points. This Sky team really needs to find themselves offensively as they rank second-to-last in points per game.
Atlanta has won four of their last five games rather comfortably, with the closest margin of victory being six points. They have an offense that scores the fourth-most points in the league and also rebounds the ball the most, which may pose a problem for you know who.
We’re going to take Brittney Griner to grab six or more boards for +102. She has hit the mark in her last seven of 10 games and is coming off a stinker, so I expect her to come to play. Griner has also hit the number in her last four out of five games vs. the Sky, but she was with the Mercury for those games. One thing to note though – the Sky have the same players down low as last year.
