The Minnesota Lynx appear to be well on their way to the best record in the WNBA, but there is a stiff battle for playoff seeding below them. Tonight, two teams that are in that mix will meet as the New York Liberty (16-6) Phoenix Mercury (15-8) to Brooklyn (7:30 p.m. ET, ION).

Mercury vs. Liberty Prediction and Picks
This is the seventh game of a eight-game homestand for the Liberty, and it’s gone well overall. Through six games, they are 5-1 on the homestand, with the lone blemish a 79-70 loss to the Seattle Storm on July 6.
Since that loss to the Storm, the Liberty have won four straight, and they have covered in all four wins. To extend that streak, they will have to see off the Mercury for the first time in three meetings this season.
On June 19, the Mercury won 89-81 at the Barclays Center sans Kahleah Copper and with leading scorer Satou Sabally making only 4 of 18 shots and managing just 11 points. Eight days later, Sabally led the way with 25 points in a 106-91 win at PHX Arena.
With the success that the Mercury have had against the Liberty already this season, Phoenix is a solid bet to cover the spread tonight. And though the home team should get the dub, an extra sprinkle on the moneyline is recommended.
Also, whatever the result, Sabrina Ionescu should have another productive night dishing out dimes. She has six or more assists in seven of her last ten games, including nine apiece in each of the last two games. Points and possessions should be plentiful in this matchup, so Ionescu will have her share of opportunities to set up scores.
