With Washington covering against Seattle on Monday, the Grocery Spot method is now 11-7 for the year. For those unfamiliar, a “Grocery Spot” refers to a situation where a team returns home after a road trip of three or more games, often leading to sluggish and worn-out performances. On Wednesday, the Sparks are in this spot, so we’re backing the Liberty.
Los Angeles is coming off a four-game road trip that began in Las Vegas, then went to Connecticut, Washington, and finally Dallas. During this trip, the Sparks went 0-4 straight up and 3-1 against the spread.

At this point in the season, the Sparks are simply playing for a check. With a 6-24 record, they are out of contention. They rank tenth in scoring, field goal percentage, and opponents’ points per game.
In contrast, New York has been exceptional since returning from the break, defeating Las Vegas, Dallas twice, and Phoenix in their last five games. Their only loss during this stretch was on August 24th at home against the Sun. The Liberty continue to be a top team, ranking second in scoring and third in opponents’ points per game.
This will be the fourth meeting between these two teams. The Liberty are 3-0 straight up and 1-2 against the spread against the Sparks this season. Despite challenges with covering large spreads against Los Angeles, New York has won every meeting by double digits, including a 35-point victory on August 15.
I believe the Liberty will continue their strong performance and easily defeat the Sparks on Wednesday night.
