After a disappointing loss in the Commissioner’s Cup, Minnesota will take on Washington at home. The Mystics and Lynx just played a little over a week ago and the Mystics got the win. Difference now is that Napheesa Collier will be playing for the Lynx.
Minnesota is 14-2 this season and the best team in the WNBA. As mentioned, they just lost Monday night to the Fever in the Commissioner’s Cup. It was a game they very much could’ve won, but shot terribly from the field. The Lynx are 8-2 in their last 10 games and undefeated at home with an 8-0 record.
Napheesa Collier missed the last matchup with a lower back injury. She has some bad discs for years now and had to sit a few games out, but is back. One of the early top candidates for this year’s MVP, Collier has been killing it. Her 24 points and 8.5 rebounds per game lead this team in both categories.
The Lynx have the best offensive and defensive ratings in the league. They rank last in steals per game and 11th in turnovers, so there are two defensive areas they can improve in. We should see a good game here, especially with Collier back.

Washington looks to get back to .500 with win tonight

Mystics guard Brittney Sykes reacts after hitting a three-point basket.
The Mystics are 8-9 so far and fourth in the Eastern Conference. They come into this game off a loss to the Wings on Saturday. Washington is 5-5 in their last 10 games and 3-6 on the road this season.
As we’ve talked about in the past, rookies Kiki Iriafen and Sonia Citron have been huge for this team. Citron is averaging 15 points per game, while Iriafen is averaging 13 points and 8 rebounds per game.
Iriafen’s production has gone down a little with the return of Shakira Austin back into the starting lineup. Austin is averaging 20 points and 8 rebounds per game over her last five games. She has been a huge part of the team since moved into the starting lineup.
It’s going to be a tough game for the Mystics, but they’ll be ready. Let’s check out the odds and get into the Mystics vs. Lynx picks.

The Mystics have shown signs of life (we won’t say greatness) this season, but I think Collier is going to be the X-factor here. Last game, neither team scored many points nor did they look good. For Minnesota, with Collier bring back her 20+ points of offense, it’s a different story.
Washington will rely heavily on their rookies to produce. Kiki Iriafen and Sonia Citron have been great this season and will need to perform to help keep their team in this game. Brittney Sykes needs to have a good shooting game and Shakira Austin needs to keep being effective.
All that being said, it’s a lot of pieces to come together for the Mystics, not to mention, do all of this against one of the best defenses in the league. Collier should get 25+ points in this one. Austin and Iriafen will try to contain her, but I think it’s really going to be tough.
I do like Sonia Citron to get 15 or more points. She has that nice jump shot and layup when she’s quick to the basket. I think this is a solid play, as not only has she been getting her points, but she could very sneakily get them without a problem from the three-point line.
