We’re going to Gainbridge Fieldhouse for tonight’s game. The Indiana Fever will host the Phoenix Mercury tonight. This will be the first time this season these two teams play each other.
Phoenix is 16-9 this season and second in the Western Conference. They come into this game off a win over the Mystics on Sunday. The Mercury are 5-5 in their last ten games and 7-5 on the road this season.
Their offseason additions have more than paid off. Bringing in Satou Sabally and Alyssa Thomas to complement Kahleah Copper has been a great combo. Sami Whitcomb and Monique Akoa Makani have both contributed as well as adding DeWanna Bonner from the Fever.
This team is good on defense as well. They rank fourth in defensive rating, third in steals and fourth best in turnovers per game. Protecting the ball is most definitely a key part to the game. Rebounding is one area that they could use some work in.

Indiana will try to stay in playoff contention while Clark is out

Fever center-forward Aliyah Boston hustles back on defense after backing a bucket.
Indiana is 14-12 so far this year and are 3rd in the East. Although they’re third in the East, they are just making the playoffs if the season ended today. The Fever come into this game on a two-game winning streak. They’re 6-4 in their last ten games and 8-6 at home.
Caitlian Clark is still out with a groin injury with no timetable for her return. This will be the fifth game the team plays without her, and they are 2-2 so far. This team is definitely missing their leader but have been able to hold it down.
This team has some depth which is helping them right now. Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston are two core members as well as Natasha Howard. They have Mitchell, Lexie Hull and Sophie Cunningham to help fill Clark’s void.
It should be interesting to see which Fever team we get. The competition will be much better this game, so that leaves another question mark. Let’s check out the odds and get into the Mercury vs. Fever picks.

I think Phoenix hits the gas pedal here. Indiana has shown they can win without Clark, even winning their last two straight. But those games were vs. the Sky and the Aces, which are not the same teams as the Mercury.
If DeWanna Bonner plays decent minutes and scores some points, then she could be the X factor of this game. A big game from a bench player could turn the tide of a game. Expect Sabally and Thomas to lead the way and get her involved when she’s on the court.
Missing your best offensive player will eventually show itself and I think after winning two, this could be that let down spot as well. I will take Kelsey Mitchell to score 20 or more points for -105. She has been the one filling the gap for Clark and is coming off a 35-point game.
The other play I like is Kahleah Copper to hit 2 or more three pointers for even money. She’s hitting at an 80% clip in her last ten games and also has hit in her last four out of five games vs. the Fever. Copper is a known shooter who is putting up around minimum of 5 attempts per game.
