The No. 2 seed in the WNBA playoffs is almost close enough for the Las Vegas Aces to touch it. With three more wins, they will look up a seed that would have looked like an impossibility a month ago. Two of those three wins must come against the Chicago Sky, with the first Sky vs. Aces matchup the finale of today’s WNBA slate (9:00 p.m. ET, NBA TV).
Entering tonight’s game, the Aces (27-14) are a half-game behind the Atlanta Dream (28-14) for that second seed. But if the Aces defeat the Sky tonight and again at Michelob Ultra Arena on Tuesday, then wrap up the regular season with a win Thursday at Los Angeles (10:00 p.m. ET, NBA TV), they will secure that spot even if Atlanta wins out as well thanks to a 3-0 season sweep of the Dream.
Three nights ago, the Aces made it 13 consecutive wins with a 97-87 win over the Minnesota Lynx. In a performance that may have tipped the scales in her favor for what would be a record-breaking fourth WNBA MVP, A’ja Wilson (31 points, eight rebounds) outdueled Napheesa Collier (12 points, six rebounds) to give the Aces their first win over the Lynx this season after losses of 14, 31, and 53 points.

Sky vs. Aces Prediction and Best Bets
Prediction for Sky vs. Aces: Aces to win
A difficult task for the Sky has been made even more arduous by the fact that they will be without Angel Reese for the first half of tonight’s game. That is a consequence of her airing out her teammates (other than Kamila Cardoso) in an interview with the Chicago Tribune.
Without Reese available for Friday’s game at Indiana due to a suspension for her technical foul accumulation, the Sky were no match for the Fever, who jumped out to a 16-point lead after the first quarter on the way to a 97-77 romp.
Don’t expect tonight to be much better. Chicago did actually put in a good shift against the Aces in a 79-74 home loss on August 25, but another close game is highly unlikely tonight, especially with Reese absent for the first half.
Sky vs. Aces Best Bets
1) Aces -16.5 (-120 at BetOnline)
The spread is -17 at other sportsbooks, so if you can grab the -16.5 at BetOnline or elsewhere, don’t hesitate to do so.
In the last Sky vs. Aces matchup, Las Vegas led by a dozen at halftime but let Chicago back in the game. That should be fresh in the Aces’ memory bank, and even if they have the game well in hand by the time Reese steps foot on the floor in the second half, don’t expect them to let up and let the Sky have even a sniff of a rally.
This is definitely a big spread, and taking big spreads is not always advised, even when a team is likely to cover it or at least come close. But against a weak team and with the Aces riding sky high, the timing and trends line up for it.
2) A’ja Wilson over 23.5 points (-125 at Lucky Rebel)
Part of the reason the Sky were able to have a respectable result against the Aces last time is because Wilson did not have her best game at all. She was just 7 of 18 from the field and finished with 18 points, nine rebounds, and three assists in 35 minutes. It was just one of three games in her last 10 in which she did not hit the 30-point mark, which is part of why she has now moved ahead of Collier in the WNBA MVP race.
In the two games since that game, Wilson had 34 points, nine rebounds, and four blocks in a huge road win over the Dream and then the 31 points and eight boards against the Lynx in Thursday’s win. The only thing that might limit her numbers tonight is if she sits early because the game is well in hand, but look for her to have another big night to further her MVP resume.
