Vancouver Whitecaps vs. LAFC MLS Betting Insights

Son Heung-Min has made an immediate impact for LAFC. Can he lead them to a huge playoff victory on the road?
I am torn, because if you asked me to pick someone to lift the MLS Cup at the end of the season, it would be whomever wins this match tonight. Unlike Round One, where things were a best of three series, the conference semifinals are a single elimination match hosted by the higher seed. If things are tied after 90 minutes, we will play standard extra time rules, meaning two 15 minute periods followed by a shootout if things are still even. This match is do or die. The whole season is on the line.
The conference finals and MLS Cup both follow the same format as well. From here on out, it’s win or go home.

This will be the third meeting between these clubs. Back in early May, they played to a 2-2 draw in Vancouver. LAFC led 2-0 in the 19′ minute thanks to a penalty kick, but the Whitecaps battled to earn a point at home. Later in June, the Whitecaps took down LAFC in the City of Angels, beating them 1-0 with a 20′ minute winner of their own.
However, this was before Thomas Müller joined Vancouver, and before Son Heung-Min joined LAFC. Things are different now.

Best Bet: Vancouver/LAFC Under 2.5 (+122) BetOnline
Both teams ended their Round One matches in two contests, earning themselves a little extra rest before this conference semifinal. These teams were first and second in scoring in the west and first and third in goals allowed as well (Vancouver led in both categories). As I said above, I am torn on a side, so I’ll just back both defenses to play extremely well.
This is just a 90 minute bet, so as long as things are just 1-1 or scoreless going into extra time, it won’t matter. We just need under 2.5 in regulation. Although we haven’t seen these teams face off with their new players, we saw just four combined shots on target in their last head to head match. The Whitecaps scored on their only shot on target, but held LAFC to just three chances at an equalizer.
There were 11 total shots on frame in their opening meeting, but given this is a playoff contest, I see teams being more conservative. They’ll come out cautious, knowing what the other’s offense is capable of. The Whitecaps did not allow a single shot on target to FC Dallas when they came to town in Round One, while LAFC conceded just five total on target in their two matches against Austin.
Both defenses are rock solid, and it will show in what I consider the real MLS Cup Final.
Prediction: 1-1 Draw (+650)
