The United States and the Netherlands face off in their 2nd game of the Group Stage, and it is actually a rematch of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup Final!
In that Final Match, the USWNT earned a penalty kick in the 61st minute to go ahead. Megan Rapinoe sealed the game minutes later, and the United States went on to win the game 2-0.
This gave the United States their 2nd straight Women’s World Cup Title.
Both of these teams ended up in the same group, and tonight we get the rematch we’ve all been waiting for. Since the 2019 World Cup, these teams have faced each other twice.
United States vs Netherlands History
These teams have played just 5 times since 2006, but 4 have happened since 2016. Although 3 of those 5 matchups have been International Friendlies.
Straight up, the Netherlands have not beaten the United States in 5 games. The USWNT won friendlies in 2006 and 2016, each by two goals.
The next meeting was the 2019 World Cup Final, and we know what happened there, another two goal victory.
In a friendly in November of 2020, the United States won again 2-0. Sophia Smith made her first appearance for the senior team and never looked back. She netted two in the first half against Vietnam.
The last meeting came in the 2021 Olympic tournament where they faced off in the Quarterfinals. They played 120 minutes to a 2-2 draw, and the United States advance 4-2 on penalties.
The Netherlands have quite the chip on their shoulder, but can they over power the USWNT?

2019 Women’s World Cup Final Rematch Picks
The Netherlands know their outmatched, but they also know the United States under performed against Vietnam. Not to say the Netherlands had the match of their life against Portugal, but both teams are aware that this is the big one.
This match will likely decide the group.
If I’m the Netherlands, and I do have plenty of Dutch DNA, I’m playing as defensive as possible.
I don’t think the Dutch have the fire power to compete with the United States in a shootout, and therefore will try to contain the onslaught from Smith and Alex Morgan.
The Pick: US/Netherlands 1H Draw (+110) Bovada
Neither of these offenses lived up to their potential in the first game, but the defenses did.
The United States did not allow Vietnam to take a single shot, yet they only put 25% of their own shots on target. With nearly 30 shots, the USWNT should’ve easily put 12 on target and netting 2-3 more.
Likewise, the Netherlands scored in the 13th minute, but only managed 4 other shots on target the rest of the match. They only conceded 2 shots and 1 on target, and only 1 corner kick.
I think we see a very defensive 45 from the Netherlands, and the way the United States looked, they should be able to contain them for the first half.
I look for the US to sneak 1 or 2 past the keeper in the 2nd half, but for plus money, I’ll bet on this first 45 to be a boring draw.

This is her first World Cup ever, so they will want to keep her in a groove.
Although she played all 90 minutes, this is a crucial game and she will still see the field plenty.
This is a more appropriate line, considering we cashed on her 2+ goals at -125 against Vietnam.
For +175, I’ll look for the United States to keep her going against the Netherlands.
