After barely squeaking out a draw against Ecuador, the United States Men’s National Team takes on Australia in another international friendly on home soil. Down in Austin, they battled for a 1-1 draw after falling behind early, but now in Denver they hope to earn a win. As a fan, this seems like a must win match for the United States. Ecuador and Australia are currently ranked No. 24 and No. 25 in the FIFA World Rankings, so this is another great chance for the No. 16 ranked United States to earn a quality win. United States vs. Australia International Friendly Betting Odds

Since losing to Mexico in the Gold Cup Final in July, the United States split two friendlies in September. They lost to No. 23 South Korea by a score of 2-0 in New Jersey, but followed it up with a win over No. 19 Japan by the same score three days later in Columbus. Pochettino’s team certainly turned it on in their second September friendly, and after having to play from behind against Ecuador, I have a feeling the USMNT will be fully focused in their final friendly of the month. In November, they have friendlies scheduled against No. 37 Paraguay and No. 15 Uruguay, both in the United States.

As for Australia, they won against No. 26 Canada by a score of 1-0 on Friday. Prior to that match, they had beaten New Zealand twice in friendlies, and have won four straight in their FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in 2025. Their last outright loss as a nation was in September of 2024 against Bahrain, and I think their lack of quality opponents could be a concern. New Zealand barely cracks the top 85 list of teams, but they did beat Japan (who is falling down the rankings) back in June of 2024, 1-0.

As I stated above, this is a must win match for the United States. The books think we are going to have a low scoring contest with the total, and given the fact that the US gave up a goal within the first half hour against Ecuador, defense should be at the forefront of their minds. I see the United States controlling possession early, refusing to give their visitors any shot at producing a chance on goal.

However, the hosts should be aggressive, and I think they pull out a win.

Don’t go crazy on this friendly, but I see the United States winning in shutout fashion. Last month, we saw a similar scenario. They were outplayed in their first match, but turned it on for the second one, even against a tougher opponent. Now, they are coming off a match where they were certainly outperformed by Ecuador, with a chance at redemption tonight.

Australia scored on their only shot on goal to beat Canada in the 71′ minute. They gave up eight shots on target, and 17 total, while producing just five of their own with less than 40% possession. Australia lost the corner kick battle 8-1, but somehow ended up on top. Do we really think that is going to happen against a motivated United States team coming off what they would consider a loss?

Even against Japan in their 1-0 victory, their winner was found in the 90′ minute after being dominated by the Japanese second team. On their own soil, in front of the Colorado faithful for the first time since 2017, I trust the United States to earn a much needed win before returning to their respective clubs.
