The UEFA Champions League is back as the Knockout Round continues with the first leg of some of the matchups today!
Today in the UCL we have:
- Inter Milan vs Atlético Madrid
- PSV vs Borussia Dortmund
Let’s break these games down and find our best bets!
Inter Milan vs Atlético Madrid
Inter Milan hosts Atlético Madrid today in Italy, and this squad is in fantastic form. Not only are they 9 points ahead of Juventus for 1st place in the Serie A standings, but they have also won 8 straight games in all competitions. Inter is also unbeaten in their last 10 games, with their last outright loss coming against Bologna in the Coppa Italia back in December in which Extra Time was needed to decide a winner.
Plain and simple, Inter Milan has looked like one of the best clubs in Europe all season long, and after losing in the UCL final last year, I’m sure they are highly motivated to get back to that game, and it starts tonight at home.
Atlético is currently 4th in the La Liga standings, but they have looked shaky this month. Despite a 7-1 record in January, they are just 1-2-1 in February, losing to Sevilla and Athletic Club in the Copa del Rey.
Ultimately, I think we do see the defenses stand out, trying to limit the offensive fire power of the opponent.
Excluding their 5-nil victory on Saturday, 6 of Madrid’s last 7 games haven’t seen 3 goals, and 5 have resulted in just one team scoring. I expect a boring, defensive game from both squads tonight, so I’ll back the under in Italy.
The Pick: Inter/Atlético Under 2.5 (-122) Bovada
PSV vs Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund successfully won Group F, this year’s Group of Death, and find themselves in the knockout round. They sit in 4th in the Bundesliga standings, and they have had no trouble scoring recently. Dortmund has found the back of the net in 9 of their L10 contests, securing multiple goals in 5 of those games as well.
Defensively they are sound as well, shutting out their opponent 4 times in their L10 contests.
PSV is running away with the Dutch Eredivisie league, currently sitting 10 points ahead of 2nd place. They are in fantastic form, but have lost the past two times they faced Feyenoord Rotterdam, the 2nd place team in the league and the only other Dutch team remaining in the UCL. Point being, they do struggle against tougher opponents.
Now, they are at home tonight, which does help them slightly. However, I still think the Dortmund attack is too much for them to handle.
I think Dortmund eventually wins this matchup, however I could see PSV battling to a draw at home. Because of this, I’ll back Dortmund at plus money for a Draw No Bet. If they win, great. If they draw, we get our money back. And if PSV pulls it out, we will simply tip our cap to them.
