UEFA Champions League Final Preview

Inter is back in the UEFA Champions League Final
Inter Milan’s Path to the UCL Final
The French and Italian leagues are represented in this year’s UCL Final. Inter Milan just finished second in the Serie A, just one point behind Napoli. They were well near the top of the table in the UCL following the league phase, placing fourth with 19 points, the same amount as second and third place, Barcelona and Arsenal. It is very much worth noting, Inter allowed just one goal in their eight league phase matches.
Inter jumped right into the bracket and met Feynoord Rotterdam, whom they took down 4-1 easily. Next up in the quarterfinals was Bayern Munich, who just won the Bundesliga for a 12th time in the past 13 years. Yes that’s a real stat. Anyways, Munich and Inter battled, but after two legs, the Italians advanced 4-3 on aggregate. Beating Munich at Allianz Arena ended up being the difference maker, and now Inter is back at that stadium for the UCL Final.
In the semis, they had to get past the Spanish attack of Barcelona. After a thrilling two legs between the clubs, Inter won 7-6 on aggregate, defeating them 4-3 at home in the second leg.
Most recently, Inter Milan was in the UCL Final back in 2023, where they lost to Manchester City, 1-0. They won the entire thing back in 2010, beating Bayern Munich 2-0. Overall, they have three UEFA Champions League Titles, and three runner up finishes. Could they add another this year?
Paris Saint-Germain’s Path to the UCL Final
Paris Saint-Germain won their domestic league with ease, but had more work to do than Inter in the UCL, as they finished 15th on the table after the league phase. They went 4-1-3, losing to Arsenal and Bayern Munich on the road and to Atletico Madrid at home. Because of this, they had to face Brest in the knockout round, with the winner advancing to the Round of 16. PSG made light work of their opponent, winning 10-0 on aggregate. Next up was Liverpool, where the French side lost the opening leg 1-0 in the final minutes despite dominating the match at home.
However, they battled at Anfield, beating Liverpool 1-0 and eventually winning 4-1 on penalty kicks. After that, they faced Aston Villa in the quarterfinals, beating them 3-1 at home in the first leg. They lost on the road 3-2, conceding a 2-0 lead, but it was enough to advance 5-4 on aggregate.
Finally, they played Arsenal in the UCL Semifinals. They beat the Gunners in both legs, advancing to their first UCL Final since losing to Bayern Munich in 2020.
Can the French side keep their hot streak going and defeat Inter to win the 2025 UEFA Champions League?

Unfamiliar Foes Go Head-to-Head for First Time in UCL

Ousmane Dembele has 8 goals in 14 matches for PSG in the UEFA Champions League
These teams have only met three times throughout history (as far as I can tell), and the two most recent outings were not only Club Friendlies, but they took place in 2019 and 2023. Not exactly relevant stuff. However, let me give you some stats about both of these teams in the Champions League competition so far.
In 14 UCL matches, Inter Milan have netted 26 goals with 17 assists. But they are posting a goal differential of +15, allowing just 11 goals total, less than one per match. Inter has one of the best back lines in all of Europe, and clearly the offense has been able to keep up over the last couple of contests. Look for the Italians to control the possession and limit their opponent’s chances.
As for PSG, in 16 matches they’ve netted 33 total goals on 24 assists. The offense is clearly firing on all cylinders netting just over two goals per match, but the defense has also been rock solid. They’ve given up just 15 goals, netting a +18 goal differential and like Inter, are allowing less than one per match. You know me and you know I love betting the under on the pitch, especially in tournament title matches.
UEFA Champions League Final Trends
Just looking ahead at Saturday, here’s where my mind is at. I’ll have an official best bets piece out later this week once we get closer to the match, but I’ll more than likely be on the under.
Under 2.5 has hit in six consecutive UCL Finals, including Both Teams to Score No. Someone has always been shutout in the last six years, and the winner has only netted two goals twice. Both Inter Milan and PSG were shutout in their most recent appearances, and the under also hit back in 2012 between Chelsea and Bayern Munich, the last time this final took place at Allianz Arena.
When it comes to a tournament final, both clubs tend to be extra cautious. Instead of playing fearless and aggressive, they look to limit their own mistakes while seeing if they can take advantage of their opponent’s slip ups. Look for both squads to take this approach come Saturday, and get ready to (most likely) sweat out an under.
