We backed Miami in the semifinal, putting on our tinfoil hat that FIFA would do whatever it takes to get Messi into this Sunday Cup Final. However, they face a very good Seattle team.
The Sounders get to play host tonight which is a huge advantage for them. Seattle has outscored their opponents 13-2 in five matches of this Leagues Cup competition with three shutouts in total. It’s Inter Miami. There has been questionable actions (or lack thereof) in favor of Miami all season long but especially in this competition. For starters, they did not score from the field against Tigres UANL in the quarterfinals. It took two penalty kicks to get them a win, and there was certainly some discrepancies with the officiating. Furthermore, Javier Mascherano was ejected from the game, remained in the stands, and was clearly talking on the phone to his assistant coaches during the remainder of the match. No sanctions have been brought on.
Then they were down 1-0 to Orlando City, equalized, but instead of letting it go to a PK shootout in just two minutes of time, Miami was gifted a PK and who other than the league’s golden boy puts it home to send his team through to the final.
Putting on my tinfoil hat, Miami was always going to win their semifinal, and the tonight it makes me think they get the job done. If I want to back Miami, I would suggest doing so on the regular ML, betting they get the job done in 90 minutes, as over 2-1 has plenty of value on the visitors.

On the flip side, Seattle is so good, especially at home. They are outscoring their opponents 13-2 in five Leagues Cup matches with four outright wins, three shutouts, and a victory in a PK shootout in the quarterfinals. Seattle was without Daniel Musovski last match, their leading scorer, and they looked fine. Now their offense is at full strength once again.
If I had to pick any team from the MLS to compete with Inter Miami’s talent, it would be Seattle. Now let’s talk about their home dominance.
At home this season, the Sounders are 12-6-1, losing just one match. They have eight total shutouts in those 19 matches, and are outscoring their opponents 46-19 during that stretch as well.
They shutout their visiting foes nearly half the time, allow just one goal per match, but score nearly 2.5 of their own. Seattle is the better team, in better form, and they are likely going to win tonight.
