In recent head-to-head meetings, Real Madrid has won four straight times against Dortmund. Last year, the two teams met twice. In the first meeting, Real won 2-0 at Wembley Stadium in London to secure the European Cup/UEFA Champions League for the 15th time. The most recent meeting came in the group stage of this past Champions League, with Dortmund taking a 2-0 lead at the Bernabeu only to see Real fire home five goals in the final half hour in a stunning comeback.
Three of those goals were scored by Vinicius Junior, who has scored once thus far in the Club World Cup. A game like this feels like the perfect occasion for him to pop up with a goal, and he is +140 at Bovada to score anytime.
Gonzalo Garcia, who scored the lone goal against Juventus on Tuesday, has been Real Madrid’s top scorer in the tournament with three goals in four games. But he is likely to be relegated to the bench today in favor of Kylian Mbappe, who returned to action as a second-half sub against Juve.
There may still be some rust to shake off for Mbappe, but the layoff might well actually work out in his and Real Madrid’s favor, given that he went straight from wrapping up the La Liga season to playing in the UEFA Nations League with France. A rested Mbappe should also get on the scoresheet, though the odds of -140 are a little less than ideal.
