Newcastle United vs. Liverpool Picks and Predictions (8/25): Monday EPL for Our Enjoyment

Cody Gakpo scored in Liverpool's home opener last weekend - Newcastle United Liverpool Picks

Nearly two weekends of English Premier League play have wrapped up, however two clubs take the field on Monday in their second domestic match. Liverpool travel to St. James’ Park as they face Newcastle United this afternoon. After a wild weekend on the pitch, we had to keep it going and found our favorite picks in this contest today. Let’s look at how we’ve done so far and then get right into it!

We’ve had a successful first couple weekends in the EPL, so let’s look at our overall record.

  • English Premier League YTD
  • 7-5-1 (58.3%)
  • +0.79u
  • Average Odds: +117
  • ROI: 7.18%

Now what about those correct score props you degenerates love?

  • EPL Correct Score YTD
  • 4-8 (33.3%)
  • +1.9u
  • Average Odds: +938
  • ROI: 158.3% (I triple checked, it’s not a typo)

With each of these matches, along with our normal (usually) one unit wager, we are also sprinkling 0.1 units on each correct score prop, with an average odds of +938. Let me be clear, I do not plan to hit one out of every three correct scores like we’ve done the first two weekends, and a 158% ROI is way too high to sustain.

However, I do plan on being positive in each soccer market this season, and so far, things are looking good. Let’s get into today’s picks between Newcastle United and Liverpool.

Is today the day that Alexander Isak is transferred away from Newcastle? - Newcastle United Liverpool Picks

Is today the day that Alexander Isak is transferred away from Newcastle?

Newcastle United are still searching for their first win of the EPL season, while Liverpool faces their first test on the road.

They opened the season against Aston Villa, playing to a scoreless draw on the road in their opener, despite playing a man up for the final 25 minutes. Now they play in front of the Magpie faithful for the first time this year. The talk surrounding Newcastle is certainly around Alexander Isak, and where he might end up playing this season. Arsenal was a potential destination, but with the signing of Eberechi Eze, they seem to be out of the mix.

Isak did not even suit up in Newcastle’s opener, and he’s not going to see the pitch today, as Liverpool are set to meet with Newcastle’s higher ups to discuss a potential move to Anfield. Hilarious stuff in my eyes, sitting out your stud against the top team in the league, because he’s probably getting moved there.

Nevertheless, Liverpool needs to improve defensively. They broke out to a 2-0 lead after 49 minutes against AFC Bournemouth at home, but by the 76′ minute, the visitors had tied things up thanks to two quick goals from Antoine Semenyo. Liverpool netted one in the 88′ and another in the 90’+4′ to salvage three points, but it was certainly a bit scary for a moment.

Look for their backline to be much more focused this afternoon.

Best Bet: Liverpool Double Chance/Under 3.5 (+130) BetOnline

Here me out. I wanted to take Liverpool Draw No Bet and this under but couldn’t find a book that would let me place that combination. This same game parlay is much juicier, but BetOnline is giving us the best price.

All we need is Liverpool to earn a point (win or draw), and for the game to have no more than three total goals. We are getting +130 at BetOnline, while the rest of the market will only give you -120 or so for this build. Hashtag.. VALUE.

Anyways, I see this match being either a 2-0 or 2-1 Liverpool Win, or possibly a 1-1 draw if Newcastle can wake up at home. In any of those scenarios, we cash our plus money winner. However, Newcastle upset Liverpool in their last meeting, so the visitors could be playing with revenge on their mind.

Sure, Liverpool was involved in a six goal thriller last weekend, and one could argue Newcastle’s offense at home is more dangerous than Bournemouth’s on the road. However, Liverpool took their foot off the gas (until it was tied) and were complacent with their lead.

Today, the back line will be extra focused, and personally I see them earning a shutout on the road.

Prediction: Liverpool Wins 2-0 (+1300) OR 2-1 (+850)
