The Major League Soccer regular season is coming to a close, as most teams have just two matches remaining before the MLS playoffs kick off. Postseason implications are rampant in every single match today, so it’s incredibly important to dive in and find out exactly what each match means for the specific teams involved. While there are 13 matches today (and two tomorrow), we’ve gotten deep into the soccer slate to find your our favorite MLS Picks for Saturday’s action.

Major League Soccer: Saturday’s Predictions October 4
Philadelphia Union vs. New York City FC MLS Picks

Hannes Wolf and New York City FC look to take down the Philadelphia Union on the road today
Best Bet: Philadelphia Union/ New York City FC Under 3 (-130) BetOnline
Look for a boring 90 minute contest in Philly this afternoon. Neither team desperately needs a win, but both certainly will be looking to secure at least a point, causing both sides to be extra cautious in my eyes. Let’s just look at the table.
The Union have a four point lead over FC Cincinnati, and hypothetically the same lead over Inter Miami (assuming Miami wins at home today). Sure, a win would secure them the top spot in the Eastern Conference, mathematically, but a draw would put them in a great position going forward as they end the season playing Charlotte FC. All the Union should want to do today is avoid losing.
And the same can be said about New York City FC as well. They sit at No. 3 on the Eastern Conference table, but in theory are No. 4, as they are tied with Miami who have an extra match in hand. NYCFC did not look like a playoff team earlier in the year, but a hot streak as propelled them up the standings. They are three points ahead of Charlotte and Nashville, who play each other today, earlier in the day than this match. Especially if those teams draw, I expect NYC simply to hold on for a point against the top team in the conference on the road. If that happens, it would almost certainly guarantee that the Pigeons earn a top five spot.
These teams played a one goal match earlier this year, with New York City hosting and finding a way to win. But we have two of the best defenses in the league as the Union are allowing just 1.03 goals per match, while NYCFC concedes 1.28. With some push potential on our side, I think the under is the play in this match.
Prediction: 1-1 Draw (+625)
Austin FC vs. St. Louis City SC: MLS Picks

Diego Rubio and Austin FC are looking to bounce back after losing the US Open Cup Final this week
Best Bets: Austin FC ML/ Under 3.5 (+210) BetOnline
Just a half unit sprinkle for me here. I like the full game under 3 (-107) and I like the under 2.5 (+130). If you want to back Austin with me with less risk, their double chance and under 3.5 is +105 on BetOnline. But I think they get it done.
St. Louis City SC isn’t good and they have nothing to play for. They are on the road, already eliminated from the postseason, and have probably just mailed it in for the rest of the year. Austin FC is still fighting for playoff positioning, and are coming off a heartbreaking loss at home in the US Open Cup Final to Nashville.
They have much more to play for and have all the intangibles on their side. Neither team is overly great at scoring the ball, but the visitor’s defense is much inferior to the hosts. Give me Austin in a low scoring contest at home.
Prediction: Austin FC Wins 1-0 (+950)
Despite there being 11 other matches on the MLS Slate, nothing is worth it to me. With minimal games remaining in the regular season, we will save our coin for the MLS Cup Playoffs. It’s been an exciting season so far, let’s hope we end up on top!
