Levante vs. Real Madrid Picks and Predictions (9/23): La Liga on a Tuesday

Trent Alexander-Arnold faces his former club tonight in the UCL - Liverpool Real Madrid Picks

The Spanish La Liga is giving us some nationally televised action on Tuesday afternoon, as the top team in the league heads on the road. Real Madrid is out to a perfect 5-0-0 start in league play, but must try to get a win on the road as they face Levante. The hosts are a newly promoted team in this year’s La Liga, spending the past three seasons in La Liga 2. Obviously, there goal is not to win the league title, but rather to not be relegated and spend two straight years in the top Spanish league, something they haven’t done since 2022. Can they pull off a miraculous home upset? Or at least earn a point against the league’s best? Let’s find out with our favorite picks.

Ivan Romero leads Levante with three goals this year in the La Liga

So far this season, Levante sits at No. 16 on the league table after five matches. They have one win, one draw and three losses, but have played and competed with some of the best. Levante opened up La Liga play with three straight losses, to Alavés and Elche on the road, while hosting Barcelona and losing 3-2. In that match, Levante actually led 2-0 at halftime, but Barcelona came back and equalized by the 52′ minute, winning on an own goal in stoppage time.

However, after those three losses, Levante played Real Betis to a 2-2 draw, and shutout Girona 4-0 on the road, but they played most of that last match with a man advantage. Now Real Madrid comes to town.

The visitors certainly won’t overlook their opponent, seeing how tough they played Barcelona in their match. They have six outright wins in all competitions this season, including three shutouts. Real Madrid has shutout Osasuna, Real Oviedo and Espanyol, handing their last opponent their first loss of the season. Madrid have also beaten Mallorca, Real Sociedad and Marseille in the UEFA Champions League. But will they come focused to this match, knowing they play their hometown rival, Atlético Madrid, on Saturday?

This is quite the look ahead spot for the visitors. Real Madrid has to go on the road (in their own city) to take on Atlético Madrid on Saturday, as well as traveling to Kazakhstan for their UCL contest next Tuesday against Kairat Almaty. Plus it’s always dangerous playing a team that has nothing to lose.

Levante are expected to lose this match, and based on the odds, probably by two goals. No one expects too much of them this season, especially against a team like Real Madrid. And they get the benefit of not only playing at home, but also getting the visitors in a tough spot.

With all that being said, it’s still Real Madrid. They have shutout half of their opponents this season, and in one of two matches on the road. When they beat Real Sociedad away from home, they played 60 minutes with only 10 men. They were up 1-0 early and played their hosts to a 1-1 draw during that stretch without Dean Huijsen. Plus, Sociedad’s one goal was a penalty kick they earned with their man advantage.

Real Madrid has essentially allowed just two goals from the field this year, and have battled back to win both of those matches. They are outscoring opponents 12-3 in six matches, plus they had eight shutout wins at home last season (in 19 matches). While I am afraid that they may be looking ahead to Saturday, they are off to a red hot start in La Liga play.

Real Madrid knows how much this match could mean. Barcelona is right on their tail, just two points behind and will likely get a win on Thursday facing Real Oviedo. Although there are still plenty of matches left in La Liga play, Real Madrid will do everything in their power to keep extending that lead against their toughest competitor for the La Liga Title. Give me a very focused Real Madrid team to win this match in shutout fashion, and then immediately turn around to prepare for their showdown with Atlético on Saturday.

Prediction: Real Madrid Wins 2-0 (+550)
