Leagues Cup Picks and Predictions (8/6): More Action in Phase One Tonight

Bongokuhle Hlongwane has two goals for Minnesota in the Leagues Cup - Leagues Cup Picks

Today is the second day of the final matches of Phase One of the 2025 Leagues Cup, and things are heating up. The Columbus Crew have climbed to the top of the MLS table with seven points, and LAFC have ended up with six, placing them fourth on the standings. However, the Sounders and Timbers both have a match remaining, already with six points, plus Inter Miami could jump them, currently sitting at five points. And plenty more clubs sit with four points, eager to have a shot at moving on.

On the Liga MX side, Toluca is at the top with eight points following three matches. Pachuca is No. 2 with seven points, while Tigres UANL and Puebla both ended with six points. However, FC Juarez and Pumas UNAM both sit at five points with a match remaining.

Only the top four from each table move on.

So far, here is our Leagues Cup record.

Leagues Cup: Wednesday’s Predictions August 6

Let’s get into tonight’s picks and who might punch their ticket to the next round.

Minnesota United vs. Atlético San Luis: Leagues Cup Picks

Best Bet: Minnesota United -1 (-112) Bovada

Minnesota United is at home tonight facing Atlético de San Luis, who has been eliminated from contention. Even with a win, San Luis will not move on, as they can only get to five points, while No. 4 on the Liga MX table currently has six. They are done.

Minnesota is not.

They sit No. 6 on the MLS table with four points. An outright win likely puts them through to the next round, especially if they tack on a couple extra goals for tiebreaker purposes. They are more than capable of doing just that at home. San Luis were shutout by the Portland Timbers in their first match on the road, but then beat Real Salt Lake in a PK shootout.

Minnesota is the much better team here, and I certainly see them winning by more than two goals, so if you’re feeling frisky and don’t want the push potential, take Minnesota -1.5 (+145).

Prediction: Minnesota Wins 3-0 (+1000)

Seattle Sounders vs. Club Tijuana: Leagues Cup Picks

Best Bet: Seattle Sounders -1 (+105) BetOnline

Back the Sounders once again. They have been playing phenomenal since the FIFA Club World Cup, and have already won twice in this tournament. The Sounders can jump to the top of the table with just a draw, but an outright win likely guarantees them the top spot on the MLS table (assuming Portland doesn’t win by more than three goals tomorrow).

At home once again, Seattle should be fine. They skunked Cruz Azul 7-0 in their opener, and then beat Santos 2-1 last match, allowing a goal in the final minutes of stoppage time while playing down a man. The Sounders will be without Georgi Minoungou who scored last match, but has only started four MLS matches for the club.

They will be fine without him. Tijuana has been aggressive and scored plenty so far this year, but facing the Sounders rock solid back line will be a test that they haven’t quite faced yet this season. Give me Seattle with some push potential.

Prediction: Seattle Sounders Win 2-0 (+825)
