Leagues Cup Picks and Predictions (7/30): MLS vs. Liga MX Action on the Pitch

Leagues Cup Picks

Last night the 2025 Leagues Cup officially kicked off with six matches. In those contests, three Liga MX teams won outright, while two others earned an extra point in the penalty shootout. Only one Mexican side “lost” last night, but still earned a point against Montreal after playing to a 90 minute draw, but falling in the PK shootout that followed. Tonight, we have six more matches as the league phase portion of this tournament continues, so let’s get in to our favorite Leagues Cup picks for the evening!

Leagues Cup: Wednesday’s Predictions July 30

We discussed the format yesterday, but here’s a quick refresher for the newbies. Teams from the MLS and Liga MX are on separate tables within their domestic leagues, but play teams from the opposite side for three matches. Teams earn three points for a win, one for a draw, and none for a loss, with games tied after 90 minutes going directly into a shootout, giving the winner an extra point for two total in the match.

The top four teams from each table move on after everyone plays three matches, meeting for a standard quarterfinal bracket to finish things off. We went 1-2 yesterday with our best bets, losing one in meltdown fashion at the end. Let’s hope we can turn it around tonight!

Pumas UNAM vs. Orlando City: Leagues Cup Picks

Orlando City faces Pumas UNAM tonight at home

Best Bet: Orlando City ML (-122) BetOnline

We are backing Orlando at home tonight. Pumas have been less than impressive so far in the Liga MX, and this will be a tough contest. They were shutout on the road against Santos, a team they should’ve beat. Then they gave up not just a 1-0 but also a 2-1 lead to Pachuca at home, eventually losing 3-2.

Orlando City is in much better form, coming off two straight wins, netting five goals in those contests and 1.84 per match this season. They just beat the Columbus Crew (No. 4 in Eastern Conference) 3-1 on the road, and they did lose their last contest on their home turf.

I expect them to come out firing, start off this tournament with a win, and do so by making a statement tonight at home.

Prediction: Orlando City Wins 2-1 (+600)

Minnesota United vs. Querétaro: Leagues Cup Picks

Best Bet: Minnesota ML/BTTS No (+160)  BetOnline

Back the hosts to win to nil tonight. Minnesota has not shutout an opponent in 10 straight matches, although they have been shutout once in that stretch. However, I think they get an easy one tonight at home. Querétaro are dead last in Liga MX having scored just once in their three matches.

They’ve also produced just five total shots on target. Minnesota has a stellar defense, and I bet it shows tonight.

They are giving up just 1.12 goals per match this MLS season, making me lean under 3 (-133) as well. However, I would worry about Minnesota netting too many to push us over the total. Ultimately, I think Minnesota wins this in shutout fashion, but if you are worried about them being able to pull off the ML at -200, take Querétaro Team Total Under 0.5 (+120), giving you a win even if we see a scoreless draw.

Prediction: Minnesota United Wins 2-0 (+500)

América vs. Real Salt Lake: Leagues Cup Picks

Diego Luna and Real Salt Lake take on América tonight - Leagues Cup Picks

Diego Luna and Real Salt Lake take on América tonight

Best Bet: Real Salt Lake +0.5 (-102) BetOnline

Here we go again backing an underdog on the double chance line tonight. Real Salt Lake is at home, and they have been scorching hot recently. This team is flying up the Western Conference standings, winning four of their last five overall, and four of their last five at home as well.

Although Diego Luna hasn’t been scoring much recently, he is always a threat and has still taken plenty of shots on goal. As for the visitors, América is 1-2-0 in three Liga MX matches, but they haven’t been tested, playing to a draw against FC Juarez (No. 17) and Necaxa (No. 7), while beating Tijuana (No. 10). However, when they faced Toluca (No. 2) in the Mexican Campeon de Campeones, they fell 3-1 at home.

I’m not going to argue that Real Salt Lake is the toughest of opponents, but compared to how they’ve done this season, I do not see América running away with this. I think RSL could very easily pull off this win, giving us fantastic value on the double chance line.

Prediction: Real Salt Lake Wins 1-0 (+950) OR 1-1 Draw (+500)
