We are back tonight with some Leagues Cup action as the quarterfinal matches are all happening tonight. Earlier in Phase One of this tournament, we had some very exciting cross-league matches as teams from the MLS took on teams from Liga MX, and now four from each league have moved on to bracket play. Tonight, on FS1, you get to see Leo Messi and Inter Miami take on Tigres UANL to open things up.

These teams last played in the Leagues Cup during the first week of the month, so since then, they’ve played at least a couple domestic matches. Let’s recap how these teams got here and how they’ve done since Phase One.
Inter Miami finished No. 2 on the MLS side of the table. They beat Atlas, took down Necaxa on penalties after a 90 minute draw, and then beat Pumas UNAM to seal their fate in the bracket. Since those matches, they’ve played two in the MLS, losing to Orlando City on the road 4-1, but then beating the LA Galaxy at home. This is a home match for Inter Miami, and I’m sure we will see both Messi and Luis Suarez, each of whom scored in their last appearance.
As for Tigres UANL, we had tons of success backing them in Phase One. They took down the Houston Dynamo and Western Conference leaders, San Diego FC, before losing to LAFC and finishing No. 3 on the Liga MX side of the table. Since the Leagues Cup, they have played two home matches, beating Puebla 7-0, but losing to Club América 3-1, after leading 1-0 after just five minutes.
Now, that loss could have been them looking ahead to this contest, as Tigres will be trying to pull off another huge win in enemy territory. They beat the Dynamo in Houston, they beat San Diego FC at Snapdragon Stadium, and they almost took down LAFC out at BMO Stadium if it weren’t for a 64′ minute penalty.
Sure, Messi and Inter Miami at Chase Stadium is a huge test, but Tigres could certainly be up for the task.

Before we get into our bets, it’s important to understand the format of these matches. With any soccer tournament, the rules for how ties and extra time is handled varies from competition to competition. So whenever you are betting anything, especially soccer, make sure you know exactly what you are getting into.
Anyways, in the Leagues Cup, just like in Phase One, there will be no extra time. All matches that end in a draw after 90 minutes will go immediately into a PK shootout to determine a winner. Typically, teams have two 15 minute periods of extra time to try and settle a draw, but this tournament is moving things along and going straight to penalties.

Here we go again. Remember, our one unit bet is split into two half unit wagers, one with Tigres +0 (Draw No Bet), and the other with Tigres +0.5 (Double Chance), both priced at -122. If the visitors can hold on for 90 minutes, we will push and win, walking away with some profit. And if they pull out a win, even better!
I trust that their loss to Club América on Saturday was because they were caught up in this look ahead spot. Tigres had to travel to Miami to face Javier Mascherano’s squad, and I think they are a bit more concerned about qualifying for the Concacaf Champions Cup, which involves a top three finish in this competition.
While Inter Miami has all of the big names, I think Tigres have the tools to pull off an upset here. Miami are falling several points behind on the MLS table, and eventually they will need to refocus on the domestic league. I do think we see a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes, which would give us some profit, but the value is with Tigres in my eyes.

While it isn’t being televised nationally, we still needed to touch on the other quarterfinal match in this window. Toluca won all three of their matches and topped the Liga MX table with eight points. They get to face Orlando City who finished No. 4 on the MLS side, beating out the Portland Timbers and Columbus Crew for the final spot on goal differential.
However I think it all comes to a halt tonight.
Not only did Orlando City have to up and fly across the country to California for this match, Toluca is in fantastic form. Since Phase One, they beat FC Juarez on the road 2-0, and battled back for a draw against Pumas UNAM. They currently sit No. 5 on the Liga MX table just five matches into league play, but their focus will definitely be on the task at hand.
Orlando City have won four straight matches, but all have been at home. Sure, this isn’t going to be a true away game, but they still had to travel across three time zones to make this matchup happen.
I certainly lean with Toluca to get the job done, and endorse them on either the ML at (+136) or the Draw No Bet line at around (-123).
