This weekend has a loaded slate, with games leaking into the afternoon. While your attention may turn to NCAA Football at that point, there is certainly money to be made in the morning, so we must get after it! English Premier League: Saturday’s Predictions September 13
Everton vs. Aston Villa EPL Picks
Aston Villa has not scored in the EPL this season
Best Bet: Aston Villa +0.25 (-120) Bovada
Let me be clear, this is the last time I will have faith in Aston Villa. They have burned me too many times this season, but I do like them in this spot. Not only are they still searching for their first English Premier League victory, but they are also waiting on their first goal of the season. Villa has been shutout, twice at home and once on the road, resulting in a draw and two losses to start their EPL campaign.
This was a team that played in the UEFA Champions League just last year and finished No. 6 on the table, tying with Newcastle United with 66 points. They are just in a bit of a slump right now, and coming back from break is the perfect time to start fresh on the season. Put the last three matches behind you, and get ready to go on the road against Everton.
Everton have won two straight in the EPL and shutout Brighton & Hove Albion at home, but this is still a match in which I see them playing for a draw. They will not want to be aggressive, as one mistake could lead to an onslaught of goals from their visitors, so look for them to try and control possession for as long as they can.
With our asian handicap wager, a draw would cause us to win and push, while a Villa outright win cashes both of our bets. I am willing to bet on Villa earning at least a point on the road, as I still have delusional faith in this club.

Crystal Palace vs. Sunderland EPL Picks

Tailing my old man on this pick by backing Palace to win in shutout fashion at home. Sunderland came back onto the EPL scene screaming by shutting out West Ham United 3-0 in their opener. Since then, they were shutout on the road by Burnley, but responded by beating Brentford. I am still not quite sold on this team on the road, and I’ll be fading them this Saturday.
Sunderland produced just one shot on target and three corner kicks on the road, and Crystal Palace has looked fine even with their recent transfer. At home, Crystal Palace drew with Nottingham Forest in their first match without Eberechi Eze, and they beat Aston Villa on the road last weekend, dominating their hosts, 3-0. Palace also shutout Chelsea on the road in their opener, allowing just one EPL goal in three matches so far.
At home, this is an easy match for Crystal Palace to earn three points, and they certainly know this. Sure, the visitors will be playing as if they have nothing to lose, because they don’t. But I still expect the hosts to be able to break through and find the back of the net coming out of this break in front of their home fans.

Brentford vs. Chelsea EPL Picks
Joao Pedro leads Chelsea on the road against Brentford

We’re paying a bit of juice here for some push potential, because part of me thinks this could be a match in which Chelsea’s offense lets loose. However, the other half thinks they may be more conservative as they ease Cole Palmer back into the lineup. Back in April, these teams played to a scoreless draw when Chelsea came to town, and this weekend I think we see another snoozer.
Brentford has netted goals in all three of their EPL matches so far this year, and beat Aston Villa 1-0 in their one match at home. Chelsea failed to score in their opener against Palace, but followed it up with five goals against West Ham United in their first contest on the road. I think West Ham might just have a rough season, while Brentford should come to play at home.
The hosts were leading their last match 1-0 with just 10 minutes to play, before they allowed a penalty kick to equalize and another stoppage time goal to lose. They’ve conceded less than three shots on target per match through three in the EPL, and trying to steal a point against Chelsea at home should be a priority. Therefore, I see them focusing on defense, knowing their best shot at winning is keeping this match as low scoring as possible. But Chelsea probably still overpowers them in the end.
Prediction: Chelsea Wins 1-0 (+750)
