Khvicha Kvartskhelia and PSG lifted the UCL for the first time ever last season - Barcelona Paris Saint-Germain Picks

Khvicha Kvartskhelia and PSG lifted the UCL for the first time ever last season

These teams met in 2024 in the UCL Quarterfinals, with PSG moving on. However, it did not come easy. The first leg was played in France, and we had quite the five goal thriller. Barcelona led 1-0 at halftime, but watched their lead dwindle and then completely disappear just five minutes into the second half. The Spanish visitors battled to equalize in the 62′ minute, while Andreas Christensen netted the winner with less than 15 minutes on the clock, giving Barcelona a 3-2 victory on the road.

We headed to Spain for the second leg, and Barcelona added to their aggregate lead, finding the go ahead goal just 12 minutes into the match. The Spanish hosts led 1-0 in the match and 4-2 on aggregate, but then Ronald Araújo received a red card in the 29′ minute and all hell broke loose. PSG went on to net four unanswered goals with the man advantage, beating them 4-1 in the match on the road and advancing 6-4 on aggregate goals.

Have the Spaniards been relishing in that loss, just waiting for the perfect time to enact their revenge? Well today might be that day.

Would you call me crazy if I backed this under? Of course you would. I’d have to be a REAL sicko to press that button, but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t tempt me. Although Barcelona loves to play aggressive, forcing offenses to keep up with them, they’ll know PSG would be ready for that challenge. Plus, the French side might have a slightly better defense right now (in my humble opinion).

But I do think the Spanish side has the advantage as far as the intangibles go.

Best Bet: Barcelona 1H ML (+126) BetOnline

While I have Barcelona’s 1H ML listed as my best bet in this match, I will also be on the 1H Under 1.5 (-114) as well. In a perfect world, the Spanish hosts lead 1-0 at the first break. Here’s how I see this first 45 minutes playing out on the field.

Barcelona is not going to hold back at all, and why would they? They’ve scored in the first half of all four competitive matches at home this season, and have led at halftime in three of those four as well. They led 4-0 against Como at the break, led 1-0 against Valencia at halftime before winning the match 6-0, and led 2-0 against Getafe. Now, last match they allowed a goal from Real Sociedad before finding an equalizer before halftime and eventually winning, but perhaps they were looking ahead to this contest.

But this is Paris Saint-Germain. The team that just won the Champions League last season and beat Atalanta 4-0 in their first UCL contest at home. However, on the road this season, they needed a 67′ minute winner to beat Nantes, they allowed a first half goal to Toulouse, and most recently lost to Marseille after allowing a goal just five minutes into the match.

I think Barcelona comes out screaming, forcing PSG to be on their heels defending most of the first 45 minutes. The Spaniards will need to keep their visitors occupied on the defensive side of the field in order to combat their potent attack. Point being, I see Lamine Yamal finding the back of the net in the first 45 minutes, with the Barcelona back line holding strong until the whistle blows.

Prediction: Barcelona Wins 1H 1-0 (+355)
