As for Nashville, they have been slipping. They were once competing for the top of the Eastern Conference, but have since moved into a different playoff position. Yes, they are still primed to make the postseason, but they’ll need to focus in these last couple of matches in order to get where they need to be. Will that impact how they approach this Cup Final? Probably not.

They beat Orlando City, and then took down both DC United and the top ranked Philadelphia Union by at least two goals to earn a spot in this championship match. However they have lost three of their last four MLS matches outright, so they’ll need to refocus and come correct in this Cup Final.

Both teams will be heavily motivated, and neither has seen the other this season. Therefore, unless they meet in the MLS Cup, this will be their only shot at taking down this specific opponent.

While both are currently in a playoff position, I think this match tonight means slightly more to Austin FC. Sure, both teams will come prepared, and probably see themselves as capable of winning the MLS Cup, but I feel like the team from Music City is better equipped to make that long push and end up on top at the end of the season.

If we have a tie at the end of 90 minutes, there will be extra time, but it won’t matter for our wager. This is essentially a “regulation” bet, meaning regardless of what happens, our bet settles after the end of the second half. At most, I think we see a 1-1 draw, or possibly a 2-0 victory for Nashville.

Despite this match being in Austin, Nashville’s back line is worth talking about. I’ll be the first to admit that they aren’t as dominate on the road as they are at GEODIS Park, but they will come prepared in this US Open Cup Final. Nashville has actually lost six straight matches outright away from home in MLS play, but Austin hasn’t been all that dominant.

They do have a nice unbeaten streak going at Q2 Stadium, but knowing what Nashville brings to the field on the attacking side, I don’t see them being overly aggressive. Sitting back and defending will likely be their game plan, trying to survive the Music City onslaught for as long as they can. Ideally for Austin FC, this match goes all the way to penalty kicks. But regardless, the defense should be very sound (on both ends of the field) resulting in a low scoring Cup Final, which is what nearly every game script looks like in my head (for championship matches).
