Will the European Giants Dominate?

Harry Kane (pictured) and Bayern Munich are one of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup betting favorites

A dozen of the 32 teams taking part in the 2025 Club World Cup are from UEFA, which means many of European soccer’s biggest names are in the draw.

That includes each of the winners of the last six editions of the UEFA Champions League—Bayern Munich (2020), Chelsea (2021), Real Madrid (2022 and 2024), Manchester City (2023), and Paris Saint-Germain (2025)—as well as Inter Milan, who lost in the final this year and two years ago, and Borussia Dortmund, who lost in last year’s final.

So, we will see the likes of Kylian Mbappe (Real Madrid), Harry Kane (Bayern), Erling Haaland (Manchester City), and Ballon d’Or favorite Ousmane Dembele (PSG) in action, with the prospect of some blockbuster matchups over the course of the next month.

With so many top European teams in the tournament, most will expect the winner, finalists, and semifinalists to come from that contingent.

This tournament is taking place after the end of the domestic and continental campaigns for players from Europe, many of whom were also on the pitch for their respective national teams this month. With no real break between the end of the domestic season (and for PSG and Inter, the Champions League final, which was on May 31), the international window, and the Club World Cup, physical and mental fatigue might play a role in how some teams fare.

However, this tournament comes with a rather significant financial incentive for the teams involved.

There is a prize pool of $1 billion for the 32 teams. That’s right, $1 billion. The Club World Cup winner could receive well over $100 million in prize money, as well as millions more (up to more than $38 million for some UEFA teams) for their participation in the tournament.

2025 FIFA Club World Cup Prize Money

  • $2 million for each group stage win and $1 million for each group stage draw
  • $7.5 million for reaching the round of 16
  • $13.125 million for reaching the quarterfinals
  • $21 million for reaching the semifinals
  • $30 million for reaching the final
  • $40 million for winning the Club World Cup final

With that much of money involved, these tired teams are likely to push past the fatigue, and the latter stages of the tournament should have a heavy European flair.

That said, the financial incentives—as well as the opportunity to showcase themselves against some of the best teams in the world—should be inspiring for the non-UEFA teams, and that could see a Flamengo, River Plate, or even Al-Hilal (whose squad features notable names like Kalidou Koulibaly, Ruben Neves, Joao Cancelo, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, and Aleksandar Mitrovic) make some serious noise.

Club World Cup Predictions and Picks

Tournament Winner Prediction and Pick: Real Madrid

This was a disappointing season for Real Madrid, who lost to Arsenal in the Champions League quarterfinals and lost out to Barcelona in both the Copa del Rey final and La Liga title race.

Between the end of the La Liga season and the Club World Cup, manager Carlo Ancelotti departed the club to lead Brazil’s national team, with former Real Madrid star Xabi Alonso now in the hot seat.

The managerial change may put off some bettors, but it should not. Barcelona’s not in the tournament

At Bovada, you can back Real Madrid to reach at least the semifinals at +105. That looks like the baseline for them. If they win Group H, they could face a tough round of 16 matchup with either Juventus or Manchester City, but if they get past that contest, a favorable matchup awaits in the quarterfinals against either the winner of Group F (likely either Dortmund of Fluminense) or the Group E runner-up (likely either Inter Milan or River Plate).

Other Club World Cup Picks

Al-Hilal to Qualify from Group H (+125 at Everygame)

Real Madrid should win Group H, but beyond them, things could be wide open for the second qualification spot between Al-Hilal, Pachuca, and Red Bull Salzburg.

As mentioned above, Al-Hilal’s squad features several accomplished players who formerly represented well-known European clubs. That makes them a very worthwhile option to emerge from this group along with Real Madrid.

Group C to be the Highest Scoring Group (+200 at BetOnline)

There are a few groups that should feature a lot of scoring, but Group C is a worthy favorite. Auckland City’s presence has a lot to do with that, as they are expected to be battered by Bayern, Benfica, and Boca Juniors. They won’t go out without a fight, but the results of their matches should help Group C edge out the other groups.

2025 FIFA Club World Cup Top Goalscorer Pick: Kylian Mbappe (+500 at Bovada)

While Real Madrid did not have a particularly successful season by Real Madrid standards, Mbappe has had a prolific first campaign with the club, scoring 43 goals in 56 matches in all club competitions. Entering the Club World Cup, he has scored in eight consecutive matches for club and country, including ten goals in his last six matches for Real.
