John Riordan Wins PLO Super High Roller Bowl for $1.25M

John Riordan claimed the top prize of $1,250,000 and the prestigious ring at the 2025 edition of the Super High Roller Bowl PLO. 

With an impressive display of composure and precision, he conquered a stacked field to earn his biggest career score. The event concluded with a thrilling heads-up battle against Sam Soverel, capping three intense days of world-class Pot-Limit Omaha action.

John Riordan: His Run to the Final Table

Riordan began the final table with the third-largest chip stack among the remaining players. Meanwhile, Sam Soverel entered the day commanding nearly three-quarters of the chips in play. Soverel dominated the early action, scoring multiple eliminations. 

He knocked out Artur Martirosian after catching trips against Martirosian’s pair, then sent Joni Jouhkimainen to the rail when Jouhkimainen’s aces were cracked by a rivered flush. Moments later, he eliminated João Simão when Simão’s kings fell to a runner-runner full house.

Despite Soverel’s commanding lead, Riordan mounted a determined comeback. He doubled through Soverel twice: first with higher two pairs, then again holding aces against a top pair. As the chip stacks leveled, momentum shifted firmly in Riordan’s favor.

The final hand of the tournament began with Soverel raising to 240,000 from the button with 10♦9♠6♠5♥. Riordan three-bet to 720,000 holding A♣K♣10♠7♠, and Soverel made the call. 

The flop came 6♥5♣4♣, giving Soverel top two pair while Riordan picked up a strong flush draw. Riordan checked, and Soverel bet 575,000. Riordan responded with a check-raise to 3,275,000, applying maximum pressure.

After a brief pause, Soverel shoved all in for 3,795,000, and Riordan snap-called. The Q♣ on the turn completed Riordan’s nut flush, leaving Soverel drawing dead. 

The 3♠ on the river confirmed Riordan’s victory, earning him the title, the $1.25 million payday, and the coveted Super High Roller Bowl ring.

Soverel took home a well-earned $825,000 for his runner-up finish, while Riordan celebrated his biggest win to date, solidifying his place among the elite in Pot-Limit Omaha tournaments.

2025 Super High Roller Bowl Event

The 2025 Super High Roller Bowl: $100,000 Pot-Limit Omaha event drew 37 entries, building a prize pool of $3.7 million. The top seven finishers earned payouts, with the min-cash set at $150,000. 

Moreover, the final table featured some of the biggest names in high-stakes PLO, including Jared Bleznick, Bryce Yockey, Artur Martirosian, Joni Jouhkimainen, and João Simão.

Held from October 27-29 at the PokerGO Studio in Las Vegas, the event showcased elite-level play and high variance characteristic of PLO’s unpredictable nature. 

Riordan, long respected as a skilled PLO specialist, finally broke through to claim one of the most coveted titles in the game.
