Aaron Johnson captured his second MSPT title after a dominant performance at Ameristar East Chicago. The victory earned him the $92,000 top prize and capped a dramatic Main Event run.
Aaron Johnson: His Run to Victory & Second MSPT Championship
Johnson entered the Main Event at Ameristar East Chicago alongside 514 other entrants in the $1,110 buy-in tournament. After a long Sunday of play, just 58 survivors returned. Johnson navigated 12 hours of intense action to emerge victorious.
His win marked his second MSPT title. Johnson’s first championship came in November 2019 at the MSPT Meskwaki, where he collected around $86,951.
In the final hand, Johnson sealed the deal against a tough final table. He outlasted notable opponents including Michael Suggs (second place), Xi Nguyen (third), and several seasoned veterans from Illinois and Wisconsin. Complete payouts ranged from $92,000 for Johnson to seats-in for the nine-handed final table.
Johnson commented after his win, “Feels amazing.” He noted that his first title had come years ago, and added this second one offered “validation”. Johnson was vindicated that his skill and persistence shined through a rough stretch.
