The playoffs have been so good to us so far and now we have 2 battle tested teams facing off. The Dallas Stars are taking on the Winnipeg Jets in Round 2. They will play their first game at the Canada Life Centre.

Winnipeg just held off the Blues in 7 games in the 1st round. They scored a game tying goal with 1.6 seconds left to force overtime. The Jets would then go on to win the game in double overtime on a goal by Adam Lowry.

Being the best team in the league is always tough. The Jets got away from the Presidents Trophy curse and made it out of the 1st round. This time around, they will be tested even more with the Dallas Stars.

Goalie Connor Hellebuyck struggled to all of our surprise. He ended up going 4-3 in the series (obviously) with a 3.85 GAA and a .830 save percentage. These numbers rank at the bottom for the playoffs amongst other goalies. Hellebuyck will need to get back to season form to hold off the Stars.

Bringing in Mikko Rantanen has shown to be such an X factor for the Stars. They battled with his former team, the Colorado Avalanche, in the 1st round and Rantanen stepped right up to the plate. He recorded 4 points in each of his last 2 games and 11 points total in his last 3 games.

This is just touching on 1 player for this team. Guys like Matt Duchene, Wyatt Johnston and Roope Hintz have been holding their weight. The team hopes to return forward and goal scorer Jason Robertson. He is still listed as day to day.

Goalie Jack Oettinger was tested in the 1st round and he came out on top. He did look extremely leaky in that series, allowing as many as 7 goals in 1 of the games. Oetty has proven he can play in these big games, so he’ll have to make adjustments for round 2. Let’s check out the odds and get into the picks.

What a series this should be. I’m not a big fan of Game 1’s and taking a side. If you pulled my arm, I’d take the Stars after their emotional victory last game. Dallas was only 1-2 vs the Jets in the regular season and lost the last 2, but this is the playoffs. It’s like a new season.

Instead, we’re taking the game total for over 5.5 goals to be scored. Both teams have electric offenses with goalies who are somewhat struggling these playoffs. I think we see both offenses come out hot with their momentums from Game 7.

I do like Mikko Rantanen after that Game 7. He is buzzing like a bee and all over the ice. Give me his 3 or more shots on goal that should be priced around -110. He is coming off a 4-point game where he had a hat trick vs his former team.

Another player I like is Kyle Connor to record 1 or more assist at -105. He has 5 assists in his last 2 home games as well as 1 in his last 3 games. Connor racked up 8 total assists in the 1st round, so I expect him to continue to make plays.
