Last night there was a new look for Dallas on the ice. The Stars will take on the Vancouver Canucks tonight at the Rogers Arena. These 2 teams met back in January and the Stars won the game 5-3.

Dallas is 41-20-2 this season and 2nd in the Central Division. They’re just coming off a 5-4 loss to the Oiler last night in what was a barn burner. The Stars are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games and are 17-13-1 on the road this season. This team is much better at home.

The Stars just acquired star Mikko Rantanen from the Carolina Hurricanes. He played his 1st game with the team last night and got on the scoreboard. This offense is already stacked without him, so now look out. Dallas already ranks 4th in goals scored and 8th in shots on goal per game.

Their defense is just as good ranking 4th in goals allowed and 11th in shots on goal allowed per game. Dallas has a decent power play but is the best in the league on the penalty kill. They play smart hockey and commit only 3 penalties per game.

Goaltender Casey DeSmith is expected to start. He is 11-6-0 this season with a 2.50 GAA and a .912 save percentage. This will be the 1st time DeSmith sees the Canucks this season as he did not play in the previous game.

Vancouver is 29-22-11 this season and 5th in the Pacific Division. They’re currently on a 2-game winning streak and are 6-4-0 in their last 10 games. They home record is ok, going 13-10-7 this season.

On offense, they’re rank in the bottom of the league for shots scored and shots on goal per game. They do have the 13th best shooting percentage in the league, so they make their shots count. The Canucks are middle of the pack for the power play as well, ranking 16th.

Defensively, they are much better. Vancouver unfortunately allows 3 goals per game, which ranks 19th in the league. They are much better for shots on goal allowed, ranking 8th best and they also have the 6th best penalty kill. They need that PK to be good committing just about 5 penalties per game.

Goalie Kevin Lankinen is expected in net tonight. He is 22-10-7 this season with a 2.52 GAA and a .906 save percentage. Lankinen has been holding this team down without goalie Thatcher Demko. Let’s check out the odds and get into the picks.

I’m taking the Stars here and we’re taking the puck line. They have shown how good they are all season and the Canucks have struggles. This is not even considering the addition of Rantanen to the Stars.

I like for Rantanen to do it all over again. He is -102 for 3 or more shots on goal and as my brother Betzky would say – that’s a coupon. Rantanen just had 4 shots on goal last night in his debut and showed he fits right in. I also like for him to score again for +160. He missed earlier this year when with the Avs but he is a whole new person now.

Another prop I like is also newcomer Mikael Granlund to record 2 or more shots on goal for +110. He has record it in his last 2 games and has hit in his last 4 games vs the Canucks. Granlund also has hit the number in his last 4 out of 5 road games vs the Canucks, including earlier this year.

Should be a good game, but a perfect get right spot for the Stars after last night’s loss. They should put up at least 3 goals again, but this time they’ll get the job done.
