Here we go people, it’s do or die time for Colorado. The Dallas Stars will head to Ball Arena to try and send the Colorado Avalanche to the golf course. Dallas had a big win in Game 5 at home to put the Avs backs against the wall. Let’s recap a bit and get into the Stars vs Avalanche picks.

Colorado took a beating Monday night, losing 6-2. They went down 3-0 by the 2nd period, was able to come back to make it 3-2, but the Stars then scored 3 more goals. Mackenzie Blackwood only had 15 saves on 18 shots before being pulled.

Nathan MacKinnon was ripping the puck. He had 1 goal, an assist and 7 shots on goal. Unfortunately, he can’t do it all himself. Guys like Martin Necas and Valeri Nichushkin need to be shooting more than once per game.

The Avs defense had a rough outing all together. Cale Makar had 4 shots on goal, but no hits and no blocked shots. Of all guys, Colorado needs him to be playing a complete game. Blackwood is expected to get the start again in Game 5. Hopefully the Avs can make some adjustments and get back to form.

The Stars looked really good in Game 5. They controlled the entire game from start to finish and found the back of the net plenty. Jake Oettinger posed the biggest problem for the Avs as he was a wall.

Wyatt Johnston got the scoring started right away, just 9 seconds into the game. The Stars buried another one right before the end of the 1st period. Mikko Rantanen kicked off the 2nd period with a goal only a minute into the period.

Dallas held off the small comeback and coasted the rest of the way. They made it a 2-goal lead again less than only 2 minutes later. I do think the Avs will be in much better form and the Stars are going to have a tougher time this game.

Oettinger has been the X factor in this series, winning the last 3 out of 4 games. He’s seen as many as 37 shots in a game and saved 34 of those shots. I think he gives the Stars the best chance to pull off this game and advance to the next round.

Like I said before, do or die. The Avalanche understand the importance of this game and I think they take care of business. This was slated as one of the best series in the 1st round and it’s living up to the hype.

Colorado was 26-12-3 this season at home and even though they gave one up at home, they can very easily steal a game on the road like Game 1. This team’s offense is deadly, as is the Stars, but they need to step up this game and find their way back around Oettinger.

Nathan MacKinnon has been leading this team. He ripped 7 shots on goal twice this series and had a game with 9. In an elimination game, you know he will be ripping again. We’re going to take his shots all the way up to 8, starting at 5. If you book offers 9 – live dangerously for a few bucks!

I also like Oettinger to get over his saves line. He has had 26 or more saves in his last 4 games and I think the line will be around 26 to 28. Colorado is going to pepper the net and shoot well over 30 shots, so this should clear for us.
