Two teams who are not off to the best start take the ice tonight. The Ottawa Senators will take on the Buffalo Sabres at the KeyBank Center. Both teams are looking to break losing streaks and get back in the win column.
Ottawa is 1-2-0 to start this year but have lost their last two games. Their most recent loss was Monday vs. the Predators where they lost 4-1. That game had a damper on it as the team lost their captain Brady Tkachuk to a wrist injury.
Tkachuk is expected to miss a minimum of 4 weeks, so this Senators offense needs to find themselves. Guys like veteran Claude Giroux, Dylan Cozens and Tim Stutzle will all need to step it up in Brady’s absence.
Goalie Linus Ullmark is expected to get the start. He’s 1-2-0 this season, starting all three games, with a 4.07 GAA and a .842 save percentage. Ullmark was practicing in new skates the other day, so interesting to see how it impacts his play.

Buffalo still looking for first win and will try tonight on home ice

Sabres forward Tage Thompson waits for the puck up during a timeout.
The Sabres are still struggling to find their first win of the season. They come into this game off a loss to the Avs on Monday night. It was a 3-1 final score where they at least held Colorado scoreless in the third but couldn’t score themselves.
Buffalo has already dropped two games at home so far. They are without Josh Norris who just came over from the Sens due to a upper body injury. They aren’t averaging even one goal per game over the three-game stretch. The Sabres still haven’t converted on the power play yet either.
Their power play is terrible, but they have been good on the penalty kill. Buffalo hasn’t allowed a power play goal yet (insert the jinx) and need to change that. It helps that Ottawa is allowing the most goals per game so far this season.
Goalie Alex Lyon is expected to start. He has started all three games this season with no luck of a win. Lyon has a 2.73 GAA and a .919 save percentage. Let’s check the odds and get into the Senators vs. Sabres picks.

I’m buying the bad news here. Even though Tkachuk is out, I’m taking the road team here. I think the Senators have enough fire power to put some pucks in net against this weak Sabres team. Alex Lyon has not found his groove whatsoever.
Ottawa has plenty of fire power even without Brady. I named a few guys before, but they will need their defense to step up more than the previous games. It should be doable considering the Sabres offense is struggling.
I like Tim Stutzle to step up and fire puck. His 3 or more shots on goal for +168 is looking really nice. He had 6 shots on goal last game after Tkachuk went out. Stutzle is going to be looked upon to lead, and he will be firing.
Another play I’ll be taking is Rasmus Dahlin to get 3 or more shots on goal for -114. He has hit in two of his three games so far but had 4 in each of those two games. I think he could clear this line on the power play if given the chance.
