A battle in the Metropolitan Division to start off the day. The Pittsburgh Penguins will head to Newark to take on the New Jersey Devils. This is the first of three meetings between these two this year.
New Jersey is 10-4-0 to start the year and first in the Metro. They come into this game off an overtime win over the Canadiens on Thursday. The Devils are 7-3-0 in their last ten games and are 6-0-0 at home this season.
The Devils offense has been solid, ranking sixth in goals and twelfth in shots on goal per game. They are seventh in shooting percentage and sixth in power play conversions. Players like Jack Hughes, Jesper Bratt and Nico Hischier all returned and are off to a good start.
Their defense isn’t terrible. They rank fifth tenth in both goals allowed and shots on goal allowed per game. New Jersey plays smart hockey, ranking fifth in penalty minutes committed and sixth in penalty kill.
In net, we’re expected to see Jacob Markstrom. He’s 4-2-0 so far with a 3.95 GAA and a .871 save percentage. The Devils will try to keep their winning streak at home alive today.

Pittsburgh will look to make it two in a row vs. New Jersey

Penguins center Evgeni Malkin works the puck around the net looking for a shot.
The Pens are 9-4-2 this season and are 2nd in the division. The come into this game off a divisional win over the Capitals on Thursday. Pittsburgh is 6-2-2 in their last ten games and 5-3-1 on the road.
This team looks pretty good for kind of an old dog. Pittsburgh, still led by Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, are off to a great start with their legends. The Pens are a nice surprise to see with the team that they have. They brought in winger Justin Brazeau who has been very effective with 6 goals and 6 assists.
Crosby and Malkin are both on fire. Malkin leads the team with 20 points and Crosby is right behind him with 19 points. These future Hall of Famers, along with guys like Bryan Rust and Anthony Mantha, could have a great year.
Defense is covered with Erik Karlsson and Kris Letang. Both guys are off to decent starts and are both such dominant defensemen. Goalie Arturs Silovs is expected to start. He has a 2.70 GAA and a .912 save percentage.

Let’s root for some goals here. We have two great offenses who are very familiar with each other. I expect both teams to be firing and we see an afternoon shootout. Both goalies have decent records but have been leaky as well.
I think we see the Devils get on the board first and early. From there, I think the Pens get one and we see a bit of a back and forth between the two teams. New Jersey’s offense should be a lot for Silvos and we see a bunch go in while Markstrom has been leaky.
Pittsburgh has the best power play in the league, so New Jersey has to continue to play smart hockey. I like for Jesper Bratt to get 3 or more shots on goal for +120. He’s coming off a great game with 3 shots on goal, 1 goal and an assist. He has also hit in two of his last three games.
I also like Sidney Crosby to get 3 or more shots on goal for even money. He is coming off a 6-shot game and hitting in his last three out of five games. Sid plays well in these divisional matchups and will be firing.
