We are nearly less than 2 months from the 2024-25 NHL season. There have been moves this offseason, so some teams look a little different. We’re going to preview the Metro Division and make a few predictions as well.
The Metro is made up of 8 teams and is considered one of the toughest divisions in the league. This past year not only did the New York Rangers win the division, but finished with the best regular season point total.
Some teams in the Metro made some big offseason moves. Pierre-Luc Dubois joined the Washington Capitals, Sean Monahan is a Blue Jacket and Anthony Duclair is a New York Islander.
Two of the top goalies in the league reside in the Metro, well New York specifically. Ilya Sorokin of the Islanders and Igor Shesterkin of the Rangers are top tier in this league. Sorokin will look for a bounce back year.
Let’s check out the odds to win the division for this season.
Current Odds to win the Metro Division
Carolina comes out as the favorite again this year. Not sure why after the season the Rangers just had and the fact that they are returning practically the same team. Columbus sits at the bottom as expected.
The Capitals sit 2nd to last in odds and they changed some things up this summer, so we’ll see if that has any value. Today we’re going to preview the Rangers, the Penguins and the Devils.
Metro Division Predictions and Previews

Man was this team good last year. I really thought they were going to get the job done, but Shesterkin couldn’t do it all. They come back stacked and will look to repeat their performance last season.
The defending President Trophy winners added winger Reilly Smith to the offense, who should be a great add. Otherwise, the Rangers are returning almost the same team as last year. Trocheck, Panarin, Zibanejad and Kreider will lead the offense again.
Fox and Trouba will lead the defense with Shesterkin in net. He is coming off a strong year and I see him just getting better. It pains me in a way to write all this being an Islanders fan, but it is true.
I think the Rangers take this division again and we’re getting really good value at +270. This is one of the toughest divisions in hockey, but right now the Rangers have built a team that they want to go all the way, and they have that team. New Jersey or Carolina could give them trouble, but time will tell.

Metro Division Predictions #2: New York Islanders to Make the Playoffs (+112) Get 50% up to $750 Deposit on BETUS for this pick
You know I had to talk about my own team, but it is for a good reason. I am seeing some great value for them to make the playoffs, and I see them doing just that.
For this team to make the playoffs at +112, this is extremely great value. The Islanders are returning the same team as last year, who I know isn’t the most exciting, but still got to the playoffs. In the offseason, they have added winger Anthony Duclair from San Jose. He’s a speedy winger as well as a goal scorer. Right now, it is looking like he’ll play on the 1st line with Barzal and Horvat.
This team has to find a way to play better defense. They have a Vezina worthy goalie in Ilya Sorokin, who took a beating this year. He has the ability to take this team far, but they are going to need to find ways to help him.
I think with the addition of Duclair, the Islanders get more pucks in the back of the net which will equate to more wins. Not only just wins, but regulation wins. The Islanders blew too many leads last season that led to games going to overtime and only securing 1 point.
