We have two teams facing off who are on their second game of back to backs. The Toronto Maple Leafs head to Ohio to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets. This is the first time of three games they’ll play this year.
Toronto is 5-4-1 this season and are sixth in the Atlantic Division. They come into this game off a win over the Flames last night. The Leafs will try to make it three in a row with a win tonight.
The Leafs are still looking for their first road win of the season. Their offense has started off a little slow for this powerhouse of a team. They rank ninth in goals per game and seventeenth in shots on goal per game. Toronto’s power play has been terrible, only converting 13% of the time.
They need to step it up on defense. The Leafs rank twenty seventh in the league in goals allowed and sixteenth in the league for shots on goal allowed. They commit about four penalties per game and kill of 80% of the time.
Goalie Cayden Primeau is expected to get the start. He is 2-0-0 this season with a 3.47 GAA and a .875 save percentage. Primeau will look to continue his solid start.

Columbus will also try to make it three in a row tonight at home

Blue Jackets center Sean Monahan stares down the center before the faceoff.
The Jackets are 5-4-0 to start and are 7th in the Metro Division. They come into this game on a two-game winning streak after beating the Penguins in a shootout last night. Weird as it is, but Columbus is 1-3-0 at home and 4-1-0 on the road, so not in their favor so far.
Dmitri Voronkov was the star of the show last night with two goals and five shots on goals. Voronkov leads the team with nine points so far. He is coming off a great sophomore year, and I think this could be a breakout year for him.
Columbus peppers the net, averaging 33 shots on goal per game. They’re only averaging three goals per game, which is sixteenth in the league. The Blue Jackets power play conversion and shooting percentage both rank twenty seventh in the league.
Goalie Elvis Merzlikins is expected to start. He is 3-1-0 so far with a 2.96 GAA and a .914 save percentage. Merzlikins will definitely need some defensive help with this Toronto offense. Let’s check out the odds and get into the Leafs vs. Jackets picks.

Give me the Leafs to extend their winning streak. I think they can totally get this offense going vs. Columbus and take this game. It’ll be huge for their momentum and the monkey off their back by getting a road win.
Toronto is the obvious better team here and as long as they can play some defense, this is their game to lose. Keeping the Jackets shot count down will need to be a main focus on defense.
Since they’ve been firing the puck, I like for Dmitri Voronkov to get 3 or more shots on goal. He has hit the mark in his last two games and last three out of four games. Voronkov has been so involved that I like the hot hand.
Another play I like is Primeau over his save line. It should come out around 27-28 and I think the Jackets put up well over 30. Even if the line comes out at 30, I’d still play it. Toronto is allowing just about 30 shots on goal a game as well.
