We have another battle in Canada for the Western Conference. The Utah Mammoth will take on the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena. This is the first of three meetings between the two teams.
Utah is 13-12-3 this season and fifth in the Central Division. They come into this game off a big win over the Ducks on Wednesday by a score of 7-0. The Mammoth are 3-5-2 in their last ten games and 6-9-2 on the road.
Last game was like a party for this offense. They do rank toward the top of the league for goals scored and shots on goal per game. Utah does have a terrible power play though, which can hurt you in the long run.
On defense, they hold it down. They rank fourteenth in goals allowed but are the best team in the league for shots on goal allowed per game. The Mammoth have a better penalty kill than power play but just middle of the league.
Goaltender Karel Vejmelka is expected to start. He is 11-7-2 this season with a 2.73 GAA and a .891 save percentage. Vejmelka will look to carry the momentum of his shutout last game into this one.

Vancouver will look to end losing streak tonight on home ice

Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes moves the puck into the offensive zone.
The Canucks are 10-14-3 and are last in the Pacific Division. They come into this game on a two-game losing streak after a loss to the Avalanche on Tuesday. Vancouver is 2-6-2 in their last ten games and 3-7-1 at home this year.
They’re struggling in Vancouver this year and it’s showing. They rank twenty third in both goals scored and shots on goal per game. Their power play is their only bright spot on offense, ranking thirteenth in the league.
Defensively they struggle just the same. Ranking worst in the league for goals allowed and twenty sixth in shots on goal allowed per game. Unlike their power play, their penalty kill is terrible and fourth worst in the league.
In net, we are expected to see Kevin Lankinen. He is 4-8-3 this year with a 3.48 GAA and a .883 save percentage. The Mammoth could really cut him up if they’re not careful. Let’s check out the odds and get into the Mammoth vs. Canucks picks.

Utah Mammoth vs. Vancouver Canucks Picks and Prediction

Utah Mammoth winger Dylan Guenther controls the puck as he enters the offensive zone.

We’re going with the under here. I know the Canucks defense is terrible, but the Mammoth just put up 7 goals last game, and I see them leveling out. Between them coming back down to Earth and Vancouvers offense, I don’t think we see many goals.
If Lankinen can hold up for two periods, this should be an easy one. Vejmelka has been pretty solid this year, so I have confidence in him holding the Canucks to one goal, maybe two. Both teams also struggle in their respective positions tonight, meaning on the road and at home.
I’m going with the Mammoth to come out with the victory as well. The -130 value isn’t terrible for a team they should definitely beat. Give me Dylan Guenther to record 3 or more shots on goal. He’s coming off a game with 5 shots on goal and has hit in three of his last four games.
