We have a packed night slate tonight, so let’s dive in. The Toronto Maple Leafs will take on the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center. This is the first of two matchups between these two this season.
Toronto is a surprising 8-8-2 to start the season and are seventh in the Atlantic Division. They come into this game on a terrible four game losing streak after a loss to the Kings in overtime on Thursday. The Leafs are 5-4-1 in their last ten games and 1-4-0 on the road so far.
The Leafs have been finding the back of the net, ranking fourth in the league for goal scored. They are managing that while only ranking nineteenth in shots on goal per game but have the second-best shooting percentage, so they make ’em count. Center Auston Matthews is on the IR, but they have plenty of offense to make up for him being out.
Defense is where the collapse happens. They rank in the bottom five of the league for goals allowed and shots on goal allowed per game. Goalie Joseph Woll will get his first start of the season tonight with Anthony Stolarz day-to-day with an upper body injury.

Chicago will look to continue their decent start to the season

Chicago Blackhawks center Connor Bedard looks to pass the puck while entering the offensive zone.
The Hawks are 8-5-4 so far and are fifth in the Central Division. They come into this game off an overtime loss to the Devils on Wednesday, a game they should’ve won. Chicago is 5-3-2 in their last ten games and 3-2-2 at home this year.
It’s been a decent start for this team who is still rebuilding. Their offense is ranking tenth best for goals scored but fourth worst for shots on goal per game. On special teams, Chicago ranks third on the power play while having the second-best shooting percentage in the league.
Connor Bedard is having a great to start to the season. The young gun has tallied ten goals and sixteen assists so far. The former #1 pick is showing his worth and the Blackhawks will continue to build this team around him.
On defense, the goaltending has been key. The Hawks are allowing the third most shots per game, but third best in goals allowed. Goalie Spencer Knight is expected in net. He has a 6-3-3 record with a 2.46 GAA and a .923 save percentage.

I actually kind of lean with Chicago if they play healthy. But if they don’t play, those are two players that are big offense for the Hawks. Even with the terrible Leafs defense, they’ll struggle a bit and help the under.
The Toronto offense could get held down a bit by the Hawks defense, who have been good. They are allowing a lot of shots, but Knight is used to getting peppered and still pulling out wins. Then with the Hawks low shot count, Woll could get a good first start.
Give me the kid who is as hot as the sun. Connor Bedard anytime goal for +140. The kid has scored in his last four games straight and has ten on the season. I think this is a good chance for him to keep it going being the best player out there for Chicago and needed to help this offense.
The Hawks defense allows a lot of shot, so I have to take Knight to over his saves line. It should come out around 28 saves, and he should see well over 30 shots. He has seen over 30 in his last three starts and I don’t think anything changes here.
