We have a banger on our hands with two of the league’s best teams facing off. The Vegas Golden Knights will take on the New Jersey Devils at the Prudential Center. This is the first of two matchups between the two this season.
Vegas is 12-6-8 to start the season and second in the Pacific Division. They come into this game on a two-game winning streak after a shootout win over the Blackhawks on Tuesday. The Knights are 5-2-3 in their last tend games and are 5-2-4 on the road.
Last game ended up being a battle vs. Chicago. Each team went back and forth, goal for goal each period until it was settled in a shootout. Goalie Carter Hart got his first win of the season, saving 27 of the 30 shots he faced.
This team is solid on offense and defense, ranking in the top half of the league in each major category. Goalie Akira Schmid is expected to start. He is 9-2-4 with a 2.51 GAA and a .896 save percentage. Schmid has been fantastic in place of Hill on the IR.

New Jersey will try to break three game losing streak at home

Devils winger Ondrej Palat tries to move the puck while defended by Knights center William Karlsson.
The Devils are 16-10-1 this year and are fourth in the Metro Division. They come into this game on a three-game losing streak after a loss Wednesday to the Stars. New Jersey is 4-6-0 in their last ten games and are 9-3-1 at home this season.
They got off to a hot start this season but has since cooled off. Their offense is fourteenth in goals and eighth in shots on goal per game. The Devils have a good power play as well, ranking sixth best in the league. Missing star Jack Hughes has not been fun and it shows.
New Jersey struggles a bit on defense. They rank sixteenth in goals allowed and twentieth in shots on goal allowed per game. The Devils commit just over four penalties per game but kill of 83% of them, ranking seventh best in the league.
In net, we’re expected to see Jacob Markstrom. He is 7-5-1 this year with a 3.55 GAA and a .875 save percentage. The Knights will look to take advantage on that GAA tonight. Let’s check out the odds and get into the Knights vs. Devils picks.

I’m riding with the road team here. The Devils just haven’t been playing well and will look to not get swept on this four game homestand. Vegas also looks like they have turned the leaf after four straight losses.
The Knights offense should be able to get passed the Devils defense and Markstrom. New Jersey’s subpar defense will have trouble will the skill of the Knights. I could see Vegas making Markstrom have to stand on his head as well.
I do think we see a lot of shots from both teams, so both goalies save line will be a play. Give me Schmid over Markstrom if I had to choose one, but both should see 30 or more shots with lines that should come around 26-28 saves.
Another play I like is Jack Eichel to get 4 or more shots on goal and sprinkle his anytime goal. He has great history vs. this team, including goals in three of his last four games vs. them and hitting his saves line in all four as well. Eichel had 6, 7, and 8 shots in his last three games vs. New Jersey so somebody get the ladder…we’re going up!
