We’re headed to American Airlines Arena for tonight’s matchup. The New York Islanders are in town to take on the Dallas Stars. This is the first of two meetings between the two teams this year.
New York is 10-7-2 this season and fourth in the Metro Division. They come into this game off a 4-1 loss to the Avalanche on Sunday night. The Islanders are 6-3-1 in their last ten games and 6-4-1 on the road.
It’s still all about rookie sensation Matthew Schaefer for the Islanders. Schaefer has seven goals and eight assists which is unreal for a rookie. He leads all defensemen for goals scored. He’s fitting in great with guys like Mat Barzal and Bo Horvat.
Their offense has been middle of the road this year, ranking fourteenth in goals scored and twelfth in shots on goal per game. They allow over three goals a game and almost thirty shots on goal, so they allow pretty much what they produce. And, as usual, their power play sucks!
Goalie Ilya Sorokin is expected to get the start. He is 6-5-2 so far with a 2.92 GAA and a .898 save percentage. After a slow start, Sorokin is 3-1-1 in this last five starts.

Dallas tries to keep it rolling and make it six in a row

Dallas Stars players celebrate together after scoring a goal.
The Stars are 12-4-3 to start the year and second in the Central Division. They come into this game on a five-game winning streak after a win over the Flyers on Saturday. Dallas is 7-1-2 in their last ten games and 6-3-1 at home this season.
This team has been in the driver’s seat the past few years. They return almost the same team as last year and their newest weapon, Mikko Rantanen. He currently leads the team with 9 goals and 17 assists.
Their power play is sick, but the rest of their offense gets the job done. They have solid defense, ranking ninth in goals allowed and fourteenth in shots on goal allowed per game. Dallas’ penalty kill ranks twenty fifth in the league and definitely needs some work.
In net, goalie Jake Oettinger is expected. He is 8-3-2 this year with a 2.75 GAA and .900 save percentage. Otty has had three of the wins during this streak. Let’s check out the odds and get into the Islanders vs. Stars picks.

We’re rooting for goals in this one. I think the Stars win this, but don’t sleep on the Islanders who win games they shouldn’t win. In the end, although both goalies are good, they tend to be leaky, and I think we see that tonight.
The Islanders and Stars are averaging over three goals per game on offense and allowing about three goals each, so the data lines up on that end. I do like both offenses and the fact that the Isles are good on the road, and the Stars are good at home.
We played this the other day and we got hooked, so we’re going back to it. Give me Mikko Rantanen to get 3 or more shots on goal for -132. The man is a menace on offense, and I like him coming off the miss, still at home. We should see him hit this without a problem.
Another play I like is Jason Robertson any time goal for +150. The guy is coming off a hat trick and has six goals in his last three games. Oddly enough, the last game Robertson played vs. the Islanders…he had a hat trick!
