An Eastern Conference battle against two teams very familiar with each other. The New York Islanders will take on the Boston Bruins at the TD Garden tonight. This will be the first of three meetings between the two this year.
New York is 4-3-1 to start the season and 5th in the Metro Division. They come into this game off an overtime loss to the Flyers on Saturday. The Islanders are 1-1-1 on the road so far and will look for their second road win tonight.
The emergence of rookie defenseman Matthew Schaefer has taken Long Island and the NHL by storm. Schaefer started off his career with a six-game point start where he has 2 goals and 5 assists with a +/- of 3. This kid is the real deal and going to have a huge impact for this team.
You can tell he fits right in with boys like Barzal and Horvat. They also have his back as Schaefer took a hard hit at the end of the game vs. the Flyers, and his teammates came right to his defense.
Goalie Ilya Sorokin is confirmed to start. He is 2-3-1 this season with a 3.70 GAA and a .875 save percentage. The Islanders hope to see Sorokin and the defense settle in soon with the offense producing.

Boston looks to make it two in a row tonight vs. New York

Bruins defenseman Nikita Zadorov gains possession of the puck with a player on his tail.
The Bruins are 4-6-0 this year to start and are last in the Atlantic Division. They come into this game off a loss last night to the Senators. Boston will be looking to get their second road win with a 1-4-0 record.
David Pastrnak leads the way for the team with 5 goals and 8 assists. In the last two years, the team has said farewell to two huge pieces in both former captains Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand. Pasta is the lone ranger of the big three left and the team has a whole new look.
Some new faces are Viktor Arvidsson from the Oilers, Mikey Eyssimont from the Lightning, and Tanner Jeannot from the Kings. Guys like Pavel Zacha, Charlie McAvoy and Casey Mittlestadt are just some of the names to return.
In goal, we’re expected to see backup Joonas Korpisalo. He is 1-3-0 this season with a 4.03 GAA and a .845 save percentage. New York will look to take advantage of not facing Swayman. Let’s check out the odds and get into the Islanders vs. Bruins picks.

I’m going with the road team here (and a little bit of a homer lol). The Islanders really look decent so far after a rough start and to me, are the better team in this matchup. It should be a good game with a lot of goals, but I think the Islanders pull it out.
The offense has been clicking for the Isles, ranking second in the league for goals scored per game. They are also firing the eighth most shots on goal per game. Their defense needs some work, but the Bruins defense is similar, which is why I also like the over.
We’re going to start with David Pastrnak to score a goal for +120. He scored three goals in his last two games vs. the Islanders last year. Pasta also has five goals in his last six games vs the Isles. He really turns it up vs. them.
I also like for Sorokin to get peppered. The line should come out around 26-28 saves and I think he sees well over 30 shots. Boston can be deadly on offense, and the Islanders are allowing so many shots on defense.
