NHL Islanders vs Blues Picks and Odds, October 17, 2024

We have a battle between the New York Islanders and the St. Louis Blues. I know, don’t get too excited over here (lol). The Islanders are coming off a big win over the Avalanche 6-2 on Monday.

Ilya Sorokin made his season debut Monday, fresh off back surgery. New York’s star goalie only allowed 2 goals on 34 shots. Sorokin was showing shades of last season already and is expected to be the starter for this game.

The Islanders are 1-1-1 so far this season and are 4th in the Metro Division. Newest addition Anthony Duclair has made himself right at home with 2 goals and 1 assist so far. Brock Nelson is right behind him with the same numbers.

This defense needs to step it up a notch. They have allowed 10 goals over 3 games, which is not a good sign. This team used to be known for their lock down defense during the Barry Trotz era and really need to find some of that to win games and protect their goalie.

St. Louis will look to get a win in front of the home crowd

St. Louis didn’t have a very good year last season. They failed to make the playoffs and didn’t make any splashes in the off season. It’s going to be a long season if they can’t get what they have to click.

They are 2-2-0 to start off the season, so they’re finding ways to win. Jordan Kyrou is the star of this team and has started off great. He has 2 goals and 4 assists which is pretty damn good but shows he’s carrying the load.

Goalie Jordan Binnington is expected to be in net for this game. He is entering his 8th season with the Blues and will always have the Stanley Cup under his belt. Other than that, he hasn’t been very good.

We’re backing the boys from the Island and we’re going to pay a little bit of juice. There’s no reason to mess with the puckline because you never know what can happen with 2 teams like this.

With Sorokin in net, the Islanders have the edge right away. Jordan Binnington is far gone from his cup run and has come back down to earth (aka he’s not that good). It’s still early in the season to go off stats, but the Blues aren’t the most explosive offensive team, which bodes well for Sorokin.

The Islanders will need to play good defense, and they will control this game. Their offense has been finding ways to score and I think that continues. Bringing in Duclair has been huge for the 1st line.

I like Anthony Duclair to record a point in this game. He is fitting right in and has had points in his last 2 games. I also really like Bo Horvat to get 3 or more shots on goal. Bo has been firing with the help of Duclair and Barzal, which shouldn’t stop during this game.
